Mega Man 9 Box Art is Further Proof That Inmates Have Taken Over the Capcom Asylum

Posted by John Constantine

I’ve said it before, and now I’m saying it again: Nerds have taken over Capcom. Their fandom, their sheer devotion to self-reference (and reverence) is staggering. Take a look at the Mega Man 9 “box art” t-shirts that the development team have made for themselves.

It’s not enough that they’re making a full on 8-bit sequel for the Blue Bomber. They have actually gone ahead and celebrated the gargantuanly bizarre box art the series was famous for twenty years ago. Pretty swell that they didn’t go with the notorious American art for Mega Man 1 as their inspiration. This definitely speaks to PAL Mega Man 2!

As the inestimable Jeremy Parish said, it’s amazing.

Editor’s Note: Think we write about Mega Man 9 too much? You ain’t seen nothing yet.

You can't possibly talk about Mega Man 9 TOO much. If anything, you don't talk about it enough, as your entire blog isn't dedicated to it.

You could probably get away with skipping X5-7, if you wanted. Nobody would complain.

Thank god. I don't think I could face doing 5 and 6 a second time.

Well, at least Mega Man X5 finishes off the series. If you pretend X8 is actually in between X4 and X5, then the series ends and MMZ is the follow up... well, it's liveable...

Joe Keiser has a programming degree from Johns Hopkins University, a tiny apartment in Brooklyn, and a fake toy guitar built in the hollowed-out shell of a real guitar. He writes about games and technology for a variety of outlets. One day he will stop doing this. The day after that, police will find his body under a collapsed pile of (formerly neatly alphabetized) collector's edition tchotchkes.

But it's a little premature to take "jack-off of all trades" off his resume. Besides writing, travelling, and painting houses, Pete plays guitar in a rock trio called The Aye-Ayes. He calls them a 'power pop' band, but they generally sound more like Motorhead on a drinking binge.
