Ah, I'm glad to hear I wasn't the only one who just never got off on Tetris. My mom pretty much bought us a Gameboy so she could play it. She was pretty incredible at it, too.

I marathoned Tetris but never enjoyed it all that much, whereas the satisfaction of Tetrisphere's chains I found utterly addictive. I was tartly dissatisfied with its lack of depth and strategy, every session seemed to end far too soon, but I loved the hell out of every minute of it. I always wanted combos to extend through layers in addition to just what's adjacent within the one you place a piece! I have fond memories of killing time working at CSUMB's Network and Computing department in the Summer of 1997 where they hade an N64 set up for staff.

I bought it! I bought it when I bought my N64. I bought my N64 with Smash Bros. and I had some money left over so I bought Tetrisphere for cheap. It's pretty cool. Very different from standard Tetris (which I also love). I remember there was a cheat code to turn all of the music into Gameboy-style chiptunes. :P
