When I pictured "shut down," I envisioned Reggie Fils-Aime personally going to each translator's home and beating them up.

About being "shut down:" if Nintendo can stop the copying/transfer of what's probably a less than 1 MB file, then PC piracy can be eliminated with just a stern look.

As far as I know, it was no secret that Tomato work[s/ed] for Funimation.

Nintendo seem to have made it clear that, for whatever reason, they aren't going to touch Mother 3 so they may as well let someone else do the job. Even this normally self-assured company seems to understand there is massive support for the fan-translation and if they shut it down they would become the devil itself.

It's funny how Nintendo's been treating this project. As far as I know, there have been no word from Nintendo to ask them to stop, and Nintendo Power even mentioned it in their magazine. They're one step away from outright endorsing the translation.

Is it just me, or is Nintendo's lack of acknowledgment kind of sad? Do they care that little about the series?

Ah well, I'm so psyched that I'm working to Earthbound music.

Alex: Hahahaha my husband and I were wondering if Nintendo would pull that "dick move," too.

As for the quality of the fan translation, it's going to be gorgeous. Tomato has been doing his share of fan translations for years, actually. I think he did Bahamut Lagoon. He works as a professional translator for an undisclosed company as well. The fact he did this out of the goodness of his heart puts me at ease about the overall kindness of the human race.

...and in the ultimate dick move, Nintendo sicks its lawyers on the translators at the last minute!

Really, this is a big deal. It's clear that of all the Nintendo fanboy subcultures, Earthbound's has the most dedicated group. At first I was worried the translators wouldn't be able to accurately capture the humor that was present in the last game. Then I remembered how hardcore these people are. I bet they've done a better job than any current Nintendo of America translation team could have done.
