I tend not to pay too much attention to tenuous research about pheromones that was "read somewhere" by someone who can't even spell pheromone...  But, I know with lots of other animals there is some sort of advantage to breeding with those who are genetically farther away -the chances of recessive genetic diseases appearing is smaller.  On the other hand, I know lots of people tend to find familiar faces more attractive than non-familiar faces.  I've also heard a scientist claim that people tend to be most attracted to those who look like they could be a third cousin.  (Wtf?  That would be a huge range of looks...)  In conclusion, I don't tend to buy too much into that stuff one way or the other.

And you won't find a defence of fetishists here (if by fetish you mean people attracted exclusively to one race).  I suppose it would be possible to, say, find dark skin attractive, as simply a preference for the physical characteristic.  I agree that I've heard plenty of white guys who seem to date Asians for stupid, stereotype-based reasons.  And I know black guys who are really hot for white women, and to me that seems to be sometimes about the "taboo" of it or about perceived social status inherent in dating white women.  I feel like guys I know who've been really into black or latina women did it for stereotypes about how their physical characteristics, more than anything.  I think all those things can be creepy, but maybe to varying degrees -but there must be some people out there who don't mind too much, or something...  I think if I was an Asian woman I might never date a white man just because nearly every white man I've known has at some point said something like "Asian women are attractive" and I hope if someone finds me attractive, it's not just for my race, whatever that person associates with the race (I've said no to people for this very reason)

Well, I mean, I would assess myself more attractive than you, physically and maybe in terms of personality, though we don't know each other personally so that one is harder, but please, I'm no longer a 16 yr-old girl, do we have to stoop to that level?  I meet plenty of guys who like me for various reasons, I'm just picky.  And I believe we were talking racial fetishes here, anyway, so I feel like you're a little off-topic.

A preference is not a fetish.

I suppose if a someone was so turned on by a particular race that the mere fact of that race inspired sexual excitement -- regardless of whether the object of this desire was young or old, bright or dull, homely or stunning -- it would qualify as a fetish.
