Both Practicality and Pizzazz

No, I'm not talking about my winning personality, though it's somewhat apt.

When the gang and I decided to introduce ourselves with our favorite home products, my thoughts immediately turned to the first big purchase I ever made for my place -- the bookcase bed frame.

When I first came upon this magical object in a local furniture outlet, I flung myself across the display mattress, turned to my guy and said, "We're not leaving without this! You leave the bed frame, you leave me!"

I may be remembering things a bit more...sensationally...than they actually were, but I have been known to err on the side of the melodramatic.

I am now able to read several books in bed without actually making a move toward our actual bookcase, all the way at the other end of the room. Such convenience is priceless.

Overstock.com has a similar collection of well-priced storage headboards, including the one pictured above.

    Wendy Atterberry is a recent transplant to New York City via Chicago.     Alex Zalben is a writer living in New York City. He's written for McSweeney's, Modern Humorist and PulpSecret.com. As one-fifth of the sketch comedy group Elephant Larry, he has been written up in the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, and pretty much every other major publication. Their blog was named one of PC Magazine's Top Blogs for 2007, and they recently won an ECNY Award for their viral short, "Minesweeper: The Movie." Alex did not know love until he bought his first Mac.
