Whilst visiting someone's swank, UES apartment, I noticed one of those luxe Spherical Concepts globes on a side table — the type you need to request further information on in order to purchase (though when I requested further information via their website, they never responded to me, probably because they could tell I was wildly out of my depth) — and asked the missus of the house about it. It turns out that she had purchased it as a gift for her husband because, since he had everything else he could possibly want, the only thing left to give him was "the world."
There is something to be said for possessing the world, which perhaps is why globe-themed products are so commonplace these days.
