I’m a big old scardey-cat. I sometimes run as fast as I can across the street, thinking that a car will appear out of thin air, and fall on me. Whenever I’m in a swimming pool, I’m pretty sure a hatch will open up in the deep end, releasing sharks that will eat me. And I certainly never, ever, ever will ride a motorcycle.
Except… There’s something about an olde timey motorcycle that is insanely charming to me. It may be my Steampunk fetish*, but a cycle that puts along, rather than dangerously tearing down the highway seems like a cool way to travel. It may also be that, in my head, I’m wearing aviator’s goggles and drinking scotch from a flask while I drive. I dunknow.
So yeah, I did a little research, and found out that the Russian company Ural is still producing vintage motorcycles with sidecars, which is awesome and amazing. The Retro, as it’s called, gets up to about 65 mph, and comes only in sleek black with white pinstripes.
I’m not saying I’m going to get it, but if you see me passing by, feel free to hop into the sidecar. I’m happy to give you a lift to the closest speakeasy.
[$12,300, Ural]
*I’m really into having soot-covered sex with men sporting gigantic moustaches.
