According to lifehacker (thanks guys!), this Saturday is the Smithsonian-sponsored Museum Day, a day when many museums will be offering free admission.
This is cool because of the cultural benefits, of course, but the real reason I'm excited is because this will leave me more money for the gift shops, my favorite part of any museum trip. I've used the Museum Day site to locate the museums near me offering free admission. After the jump, some of the gift shop items I'm rarin' to pick up:

[compass necklace, $98, American Folk Art Museum]

[feather pin, $40, Cooper-Hewitt Design Museum]

[metrocard playing cards, $4.50, New York Transit Museum]

[grand central ceiling umbrella, $30, New York Transit Museum]
