Three Reasons You'll Love: Garth Marenghi's Darkplace

Not that we don't always recommend the stuff we post on here, but I wanted to give a little notice to something that is extra special, and is a must purchase. In this case, it's a British television show called Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, and here's several reasons why you must buy it:

1) If You Love Twilight Zone: Or Amazing Stories, or any horror/scifi anthology show, you will love this. The conceit is that Garth Marenghi, a sort of British Stephen King, created a show called "Darkplace," that was never released on television. In it, he explored the spooky goings on at Darkplace County Hospital, brilliant depicted by the world's worst scale model. Each episode has a different "scary" premise, brilliantly skewering the tropes of the horror anthology genre.

2) If You Love Christopher Guest: If you're a fan of Waiting for Guffman, or Best in Show. Or really, if you like any depiction of earnest people putting a lot of energy into something that isn't really worth their time... And then they do it badly.

3) If You Love Things That Are Good: Seriously, this is masterfully done comedy. There have been a million terrible YouTube videos like this, and even movies that try to hit this aesthetic. I watch a ton of comedy, and let me say that this is probably the best example of it's kind, ever. Hilariously funny, and extraordinarly well done.

Sadly, the DVD is only available for Region 2 players; but you should be able to order, and watch in yout computer, switching the region at least one time.

A brilliant send-up of every 80's cliche, this show was the boss. Too funny for Americans, actually, who generally prefer their dumbed-down rip-offs of Britcoms to the real thing.

As an American, I'd rather not be told how "dumbed-down" I like my media by someone who doesn't know how to use apostrophes.
