These Glasses Give Me Wood

Posted by Shaun Seneviratne

Even before I needed glasses, I wanted them. Inspired by the likes of Egon Spengler and Peter Parker, I thought glasses were the coolest accessory and I was so glad when I was diagnosed with nearsightedness. (I'm so into glasses that I don't even own a pair of contacts.) I'm wearing my current pair from Moscot in the picture above, but I've been thinking about deviating from my usual thick-rimmed frames for something else. . .

I've also lately had an obsession with wood products, my favorite being these wooden handle bars. I think I just found my next pair of frames:

They are almost exactly like my current frames, but made out of wood (Desert Ironwood, to be exact)! I don't even care that they match my skin color, these Urban Spectacles wooden glasses frames are so goddamn nice. The best part? Urban Spectacles makes everything custom. They will precisely measure your head and design the glasses, then you pick the wood and they carve it by hand, apply the final oil coat and voila: you have yourself a new pair of glasses.

Prices start at $500, which is totally reasonable for exotic wood and custom fit and style.

This has been officially added to my wish list.

Here are some more:

I love your glasses--I'm also a fan of the thick black frames. The wooden ones are badass.
