Apple Announces New Shuffle

Posted by Alex Zalben

So, how long until the first, "My kid swallowed my iPod Shuffle!" hits? The new version ships in 3-5 days, so I'm going to go out on a limb and say... 3-5 days.

Anyway, beyond size, there's an annoying new feature:

VoiceOver, which will announce the names of your songs, or playlist. I say annoying because I don't need that junk. But actually pretty awesome for anyone who is annoyed you don't know what's coming up in their shuffle, and, you know, those without sight.

It's also up to 4GB of storage, which is pretty rad. For $79, you can't do much better.

[$79, Apple]

Voiceover is optional, it will only announce song title / artist if you press and hold the button.

Nice to see you put a lot of work in researching the new product before forming an opinion.  Very nice work, indeed.  Alex, you can do better!

Dude! I know it doesn't do it automatically, I'm just saying I'd never, ever, ever, ever use that feature.

Ever! Did I mention that?

Apple totally f-ed me over yesterday, so me and Steve Jobs are dunzo.
