  Last night, I skipped out on my office gig early to go and photograph a corporate event (because apparently I am a professional photographer now...a professional photographer with this in my bag).  As I stood awkwardly among the polished masses, with my bulky black camera bag, I had to wonder why camera bags as a whole were so overwhelmingly ugly. • Hands On: Samsung’s Still Cameras

  Wrapping up my look at Samsung’s Spring Fever Showcase, I got a chance to play with pretty much the entire line of Samsung still cameras. Ironically, I took photos of them with my Sony still camera. Boy, aren’t the pictures bad, Samsung? Wouldn’t they better if I took them with a Samsung camera? You know, for research purposes? Cough. • Hands On: Samsung’s Camcorders

  As mentioned earlier, last night I attended Samsung’s Spring Fever Showcase, and checked out a bunch of their upcoming goods and services. What I neglected to mention was that I was there because the lovely and talented Stephanie Auteri couldn’t make it. See? Bloggaz be lookin’ out for each otha. Anywho, one of the highlights for me was checking out Samsung’s line of consumer camcorders. It’s not a large line, and admittedly so; you can see all of them up top. Basically, there’s one Mini-DV cam, one DVD cam, and the rest save to SD cards. Which makes a lot of sense. Physical media isn’t very long for this world, and SD cards are pretty much the way to go.   The Xacti DMX-CA8 will go on sale in Japan at the end of May, but let’s hope it makes it over here sometime soon… The little guy saves all files in an included hard drive in an easily importable format, and is also, you know, waterproof. • Sony Produces Sweet-Ass Future Camcorder

  It’s funny, because the big story about the recently announced Sony HDVF-EL100 is its viewfinder, but just look at the whole thing. First of all, it’s white, which is a rarity for a high end, prosumer camera. Then there’s the barrel, which looks more like a video game gun than a camera. And then there’s the viewfinder itself, which is in an entirely different position than the regular place Sony sticks its viewfinders (the side). • Keychain Tripod!

  I haven’t been the biggest fan of table-top tripods… I find that they tend to be unsteady, unreliable, and generally, pretty annoying. However, when you have Bogen, a name known for quality tripod work, you trust ‘em.
