grew up on Cheerios and Rice Krispies. My parents bought Frosted Flakes
as well, but they kept it hidden in a separate cabinet, and told both
me and my brother that it was an Adult Cereal.
I like to think
that this is the reason I began bingeing on Costco-sized boxes of
Frosted Flakes when I first went away for college, at the age of 18.
And at the age of 21, this is why I started buying boxes of Lucky
Charms in bulk, carefully separating the "marshmallows" from the
"grains" and only eating the marshmallows (I insisted that they smelled
like cotton candy). And at the age of 23, this is the reason that
double fistfuls of Cookie Crisp seemed a perfectly viable snack option.
But — for the sake of my waistline — perhaps I should be appreciating my favorite cereal in a far more hands-off way.
