when I did marketing work for an academic book publisher, I attended my
share of professional conferences, selling books and rendezvousing with
authors.
My favorite aspect — without a doubt — was the
freebies. Aside from the maple-flavored fudge at a conference in

- Tout my awesomeness.
- Pass my number along to attractive menfolk.
- Promote my at-home business.
- Be passive-aggressively insulting: "Here, you look like you could use this Stephanie-shaped stress ball."
- Promote my fantasy, non-existent at-home business.
