Today's online comics break brought to you by fearless intern Caitlin MacRae:
I
like to take mini-breaks instead of big ones. I find them to be a much more
satisfying way to ignore my responsibilities – a lunch break is mandated by
law, but a five minute spaz fest on the computer in between projects? It feels
sneakier, more subversive – and thus much, much more gratifying.
Hence my love of daily
online comics. While I’m taking a break from the exhausting schedules they have
us interns on – seriously, y’all, I can only make Half & Half runs so many
times a day – I peruse the magical world of internet hilarity, frame by frame,
and my day is filled with more unadulterated glee than a whole basket full of –
well, full of otherwise adulterated glee, I guess.
These are by no means new to
the internets, but I felt like sharing. So. Here are some of my favorites, in
no particular order:
Dinosaur Comics’ Holy Smokes! (Nifty fact: the
same set of images has been used in every single one of these comics to date.
Effin’ brilliant.)
Toothpaste
for Dinner ‘s Rap Office.
Achewood
Cat and Girl’s “Mutualism.”
And… this last one isn’t a comic, per se, but
brilliant nonetheless, and a site whose drawings suck me in until I’ve somehow
lost three hours staring at Jerry Seinfeld and a giraffe. Brandon Bird is one of my favorite
artists, and his undeniably pitch-perfect renderings of celebrities in absurd
situations have gotten me through many a long day. For example: No One Wants to Play Sega with
Harrison Ford.
I also highly recommend his Law & Order:
Special Victims Unit valentines. Straight glorious.
