Quite Possibly the Worst Christmas Gift. Ever.

This little gifft suggestion arrived in our inbox Friday and we're pretty sure it's worse than getting two weeks free AOL from Grandma.

We understand giving pointed gifts — we've given books to kids who can't read and cookbooks to relatives who can't cook — but, seriously, stick some cash in a card. The last thing anyone wants after going into more debt than they're already in, buying presents for people they only see once a year, is a free look at their credit report. Looking at our credit report is the kind-of thing we do alone, with the door locked and the lights off after Apple refuses to let us finance a new MacBook. It's shameful, and dirty and should have nothing to do with Christmas. Ever.

Particularly since everyone is entitled by law to an annual free credit report.  See www.ftc.gov/.../freereports.shtm
