Deep "That's What SHE Said" Thoughts On... Hipster Sexuality

Posted by Katie Halper

I've observed that Hipsters stick to their own more than other "subcultures" and species. I also have observed, that a Hipster will pursue a less attractive Hipster and reject a stunning non-Hipster more than non-Hipsters do. In other words, members of the Hipster community, engage in far less inter-subcultural dating than, say, members of the Hip Hop community. Of course, my studies are far from conclusive, due to the fact that the Hipster never self identifies as Hipster. Self identifying is actually atypical among the Hipster population, and is a strong indicator that the individual is not, in fact, a member of the Hipster tribe. If, however, we take my study on its face, the following question arises. If Hipsters prefer someone who is less attractive, but appears, dresses like, and acts like more of a hipster, to some who is more attractive, but does not dress like a Hipster, is the Hipster more or less superficial than non-Hipsters?

Hipsters have sexuality?  Could have fooled me.  I worked at restaurants frequented by the hippest among us, and I found and alarming lack of sexual tension.  Those who can do, and those who can't...go for brunch and whine about those who can?

Maybe it's because Hipsters are insufferable, petty, shallow, self-absorbed narcicists and no one else can stand them for very long or in large numbers.

To be fair I can't say this is true of ALL Hipsters, only all the Hipsters I've ever met

That is so right on. I go for overweight, burly hipsters. Not that I'm a hipster. Or maybe I am. I don't know, but I definitely like the burly ones.

Hipsters are mad superficial and this is proof! They suck! Also, as for some explanation i would say that it makes them more superficial cause its just another superficial measure on par with attractiveness. i guess. Boo Hipsters

i am always amazed that the hipster guys are interested in me for just this reason. i am too not-williamsburg, too un-apathetic, and too well-groomed to be a hipster. but, then, i also dated a guy (who it turns out is a total nutjob) just because he didn't know what a hipster was, and i thought that was "charming." in conclusion, i don't wear leg warmers, and i need better psycho radar.

I do wear legwarmers and I've never been gotten any attention from hipsters. WHY? are my leg warmers not leg-warm-y enough for you???

How about the fact that anyone even remotely involved with the arts or "hip" culture should be offended by the term "hipster." Mainstream America started using it so that they could classify a certain group of people and make them look like freaks. Did anybody who was truly "punk" ever call themselves a punk? No.

We have HUD for housing and HIPA for health, but it would really be hip if we had a HEP - Hipster Eradication Program - to bring some self-respect back to Brooklyn.

Ah....a question for the ages. More superficial gets my vote. I remember the glares on Bedford ave, which I now experience when I'm in Silver Lake.

In the land of truth-telling and lie-telling hipsters, you come to a fork in the road.  You're only allowed to ask one question...

Oh, silly hipsters, they really are hard to detect with all that denial. Turns out, I was accidentally dating one of them all this time and didn't even know it...what does that make me??

isn't Nerve the place where all the hipsters go to date each other online, purely based on hipsterness?

How can a hipster be a true hipster if his/her significant other is all normal? It takes away from his/her own hipster-factor. If you have fallen into the realm of hipster-ness most likely you will do anything to keep your type of "lifestyle" going. Even if its turning down the hot normal girl for the weird chick with glasses and the back of her head shaved off wearing the band shirt (of a band that actually doesn't exist but, I mean really, isn't that the point?)

If a hipster and a non hipster have a baby what does the kid come out as? Is it like how the jews work: meaning if the mother is a hipster then the kid is automatic?

Question: Can black people be hipsters?
