Thomas Beatie, "the Pregnant Man", on Oprah...Today!

Posted by Nicole Pasulka

Oh, Thomas Beatie, we named you Dad of the Day after reading your article in The Advocate about carrying a child as a transgender man because your wife wasn't able to. And now Oprah's been calling. Which makes sense, we guess, but we are feeling nervous. Though we love her book club and her "Princess for a Day" shit, we don't quite trust 'The O' to not get all weird and judgy on you.

Did she give you bucks? We hope so.

Either way, you are looking pretty good, if just a little nervous in the promo. But we can feel that, we'd be nervous if we were on Oprah because of a toothache, forget about showing up as a transgender, pregnant, father-to-be. Between now and 4pm Eastern Standard Time, we will watch the promo after the jump and wait for your TV debut.

Yeah, but the hate and ignorance on the Oprah message boards - it will make you lose your faith in mankind altogether...

I'm worried for their safety, frankly.

Oprah better take this seriously and not make this amazing family look bad.

This is completely bizarre, but leave it to Oprah to find a place in every white bread home in America for pregnant transgender males. Jees.

Emily Farris writes about culture and food for numerous publications and websites you've probably never heard of, including her own blog eefers. Her first cookbook will be published in fall 2008. Emily lives in Greenpoint, Brooklyn with her cat, but just one . . . so far.

Brian Fairbanks is a filmmaker living in the wilds of Brooklyn. He previously wrote for the Hartford Courant and Gawker. He won the Williamsburg Spelling Bee once. He loves cats, women with guns, and burning books.

Nicole Pasulka is a Brooklyn writer and editor who's always on the lookout for the dirty. Her other virtual home is at The Morning News, where things are squeaky clean most of the time.
