Raffi: Godfather of Indie Hipster Fashion?

Posted by Steve McKay

The punkers had Iggy Pop, the grungers had Neil Young and the…um…soulsters had James Brown, but people, how many times have walked through Williamsburg or Wicker Park or Kensington Market or any other hipster neighborhood in any other city and said to yourself “Where the fuck did these people come from?” Or, if we may expatiate from there “Who is the Godfather of Indie Hipster Fashion?”  Well kids, we think we've found the answer here with this picture of popular children’s entertainer Raffi.  Note the wildly patterned shirt, colorful wide-brimmed cap and unruly beard. Devendra Banhart eat your heart out!

He's actually a dedicated activist against corporate advertising to kids, too. Only increases his credibility.

Plus, "bananaphone" is still a great song.

Thanks for noticing the play meganco.  You are of course talking about my hipster kickball play I did today in my tight little lime green American Apparel jeans right?
