This Week in Gayness: McDonald's Makes Jesus Cry?

Posted by Brian Fairbanks

Hatemonger and classic "Southern gentleman" Jesse Helms died at the age of 86. Meanwhile, a government worker actually retired rather than lower his office's flag to half-mast. Now, that's a gentleman

Four teenagers are giving their LGBT Center a bad name after beating up a priest who tried to intervene in their fight.

In another setback to bigots in California, a conservative county that anti-marriage advocates had hoped would buck the State's new position agreed to hold gay marriage ceremonies after all...

An adult lesbian adoption was defeated after a residency issue was brought to light by the bitter, greedy family of Thomas Watson, who helped launch IBM Computers. How shameful.

Florida, which has been making a run lately for the title of Craziest State in the Nation, helped bring itself closer to reality this week by ignoring the "gay panic" plea of a drag queen's coldblooded murderer, sentencing him to life in prison. Don't worry, buddy, there's no chance of butt sex in prison.

The Religious Right, in the form of the so-called American Family Association, urged its members to boycott McDonald's restaurants nationwide after the chain so much as voiced support for National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. These are actual quotes from the right-wing group, believe it or not:

[T]he boycott "is not about hiring homosexuals ... It is not about homosexuals eating at McDonald's ... It is not about how homosexual employees are treated.

"It is about McDonald's, as a corporation, refusing to remain neutral in the culture wars. McDonald's has chosen not to remain neutral but to give the full weight of their corporation to promoting the homosexual agenda, including homosexual marriage," the site went on to say.

Up against the wall you ignorant leftie punk. Must delight you Marxists to no end that such a decent, honorable man has passed on.

Barry Goldwater was right - we should cut the eastern seaboard off. Or at least that part of it north of Fredericksburg, VA.

Hey Citizen,

First of all, thanks for the (death?) threat. And appreciate you using it as a cover to link to your dumb joke of a website. Classy.

By the way, I agree with you. The Eastern Seaboard should fall by the way of the Twin Towers we lefties were so happy to see crumble. That's why I'm moving to Your Town, USA, to which I will happily bring the gay plague, my giant (liberal) limousine, Black Wife, and 140% tax penalties to your ignorant countrymen.

But since you're such a tolerant mind, much like your fun-lovin' bigot friend Jesse, you won't mind terribly, will ya?

My question is what is a wingnut like citizencjm1 doing reading Scanner in the first place?  My guess is that citizencjm1 is one of those repressed types who outwardly is ultra-macho and conservative while beneath lies DESIRES his friends and family would cite as the work of the Devil.  I'll bottom line it.  If you're going to play tough guy with someone, try it on me, not Nerve, not Scanner Brian nor anyone else at Scanner.

The "up against the wall" was a reference to what is in the "About Brian Fairbanks" box below. To cast it as a death threat is going to dramatic extremes. Martyr to the Right, eh? Puh-leeze. Just sick of Lefties personally villifying decent men who don't embrace the suicide of the West such as you and the vast majority of the Commentariat. That said, even though I disagree with you often I enjoy much of what you post.

Repressed? Hardly. And FF, you should know whom you are addressing before you issue challenges. Did I see you at Quantico when I attended Marine OCS? Did we meet when I was patrolling the streets of Baghdad with Iraqi soldiers? I somehow doubt it.

It's shocking that citizen#$$% would even be on this page, let alone suggesting that New York city fall off the eastern seaboard. Why would you be on a site that was developed, created, and nurtured by, and is largely dedicated to New York.

I also find it hilarious that the substance of his threats are boastings of his military service. 'I'm a bigger bad ass than you, blah blah blah'...What are we, preadolescent.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he's from North Cacalaki.

I always thought a product of the Marine OCS produced an "officer and a gentleman" (despite the archaic term it does include female officers).  I did not view citizencjm1's comments towards Scanner BF: "Up against the wall you ignorant leftie punk. Must delight you Marxists to no end that such a decent, honorable man has passed on.

Barry Goldwater was right - we should cut the eastern seaboard off. Or at least that part of it north of Fredericksburg, VA" as even civil much less gentlemanly.
