Update To Creepy Canadian Decapitation: Suspect Identified!

Posted by Ina Maier

Canadians everywhere (and people now terrified of Canadians) can rest easy tonight. Police have identified who the AP so euphemistically calls "the Canadian Bus Attack Suspect."

The AP reports:

Police said in a statement Friday that 40-year-old Vince Weiguang Li, of Edmonton, Alberta, has been charged with second-degree murder. Li is due to appear in court Friday.

Police have also identified the victim as 22-year-old Tim McLean - a carnival worker.

The AP closes out with the previously unmentioned gruesome detail that after the killer repeatedly stabbed the victim, decapitated his head, and then deposited it at the front of the bus, he went back to his seat and "began cutting up the body."

It just keeps getting worse.

PS. Scanner Verena would like to take this opportunity to apologize for cracking jokes in the previous decapitation post. She was under the clearly misinformed impression that making fun of Canadians was always kosher, particularly if you are making fun of Royal Mounted Policing Canadians. She is sorry. She was just trying to fit in.

As a resident good old Canada, I found the joke cracking totally funny. Decapitation is serious and awful but so weird and out of place on the Canadian prairies that is kind of funny in a juxtaposed sort of way.

Perhaps what Scanner Verena should really apologize for is "decapitating his head." Since decapitation is defined as the removal of someone's head, that's redundant, no?

As for the jokes, well, a story like this is sort of funny, in a horrifying kind of way.
