15 Hangover Cures From Around The World

Posted by Verena von Pfetten

Bacon, egg, and cheese? That's for wussies. A Bloody Mary? Pshaw. What we're talking about is some good, old-fashioned sheep's eyeballs, rabbit shit tea, and tripe soup...

In light of Denny's legitimization of drunk food and our, well, love of drinking, we thought it was only fit to post a listicle fit for a lush: the best hangover cures from around the world. Let us give thanks to the fellow drunkards at SloshSpot who did the work for us - because without them, we would never have known that tripe soup, also known as Menudo (interesting...) and "made from the lining of a cow’s stomach and...usually spiced with chili powder, garlic, and other seasonings" is a sworn stable south of the border. And here we thought queso was a god-send.

Also, everyone knows that Australians love their vegemite, but does everyone know that vegemite is some bona-fide hair of the dog? (Literally, it's made from yeast.)  While we're not sure about Vegemite Toast Crunch (it has to be a hoax?), we know Aussies can drink ("Fosters! It's Australian for beer."), so we trust their judgement on this one.

2nd on the list is Haejangguk, which we'll probably have better luck pronouncing once thoroughly sauced and which looks like it might be the most thoroughly unappetizing dish on the list.

It's made from pork spine or cow bones, coagulated ox blood, cabbage, and vegetables and is a regular sell-out in the Korean food cart circle.Yummy!

There are several drinkable concoctions, such as the Prairie Oyster ("Combine 1 egg yolk, 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce, 2 dashes vinegar, 2 dashes Tabasco sauce, and a pinch of salt & pepper. Vinegar and ketchup are optional."), the Red Eye ("4 oz. Beer, 1.5 oz. Vodka, 3 oz. Tomato juice, and 1 Whole egg. Blend and serve."), Rabbit Shit Tea (no explaination given, nausea cited as an excuse), and Picked Sheep Eyeballs In Tomato Juice (self-explanatory).

And if none of these work for you, you can always try voodoo. Seriously: "Haitians place 13 pins into the cork of the bottle that did the damage."

[For the rest of the 15, including dried bull penis, pricky pear, and deep-fried canaries, check out SloshSpot.]
