Enjoy "Porn, Pure and Simple"? You and Kafka Have Something in Common...

Posted by Nicole Pasulka

Who knew revered writer and literary icon Franz Kafka had a taste for Porn with a capital "P"? Well, a lot of people actually. It seems there was a cover up in the literary community. Until the recent publication of James Hawes' book Excavating Kafka scholars had mostly kept the writer's proclivities to themselves.

Why so squeamish? Turns out the stash was hardly softcore--

Even today, the pornography would be "on the top shelf", Dr Hawes said, noting that his American publisher did not want him to publish it at first. "These are not naughty postcards from the beach. They are undoubtedly porn, pure and simple. Some of it is quite dark, with animals committing fellatio and girl-on-girl action... It's quite unpleasant."

"Academics have pretended it did not exist," Dr Hawes said. “The Kafka industry doesn’t want to know such things about its idol."

Those of you worried your subscription to Jugs could come back to haunt you, take note--it probably will!

St. Augustine probably had some good stuff on his bottom shelf neatly tucked up under a sly heading like "Research on Ryparography."  We know that famed

Protestant theologian Paul Tillich had a taste for naked babes on the cross, so poor little Franz gets caught with a couple of Penthouse Forums under his pillow and we're supposed to be shocked, SHOCKED?  Give me a break!  Of course he had a taste for porn.  Who in their right mind spends all their time trying to secure literary immortality?  Oops.  I forgot: C.S. Lewis.
