You Know, You Look Just Like...

Posted by Emily Farris

Apparently, I have "one of those faces." Or so everyone likes to tell me. People I meet always tell me I look like someone. Strangely, more than a few people have told me I look like their best friend from elementary school (does that mean I have a baby face?) but most often, there are the celebrity comparisons. They have changed over the years, with my hair color and weight fluctuations. While they started as not so bad, there were a few years in there when I wanted to scream, and lately I've been really happy when someone says, "You know, you look a lot like...."

From about age 8 to 14, I had long, straight dirty blonde hair. I parted it down the middle and wore baggy t-shirts. I was always told I looked like Veda, from "My Girl," played by Anna Chlumsky.

As I got older, and a little fatter, a certain intern was sleeping with a president. So, especially considering I wore too much make-up at the time, it took me a few years to live down "a blonde Monica Lewinsky."

When I moved to New York at 18, I lost the hair and kept the weight. "The Osbournes" was incredibly popular on MTV and a comparison to Kelly was inevitable... and painful.

Eventually, I let my hair grow out, lost some weight and stopped wearing so much make-up. At that point, I had (and believe me, I counted) four people (including my chiropractor) told me I looked like Scarlett Johansson. I still treasure this comparison, and though don't see it, I'll take it!

Now that "Mad Men" is so popular, and I've taken to wearing red lipstick again I hear "Joan from Mad Men" (played by Christina Hendricks) at least twice a week. I'm obviously very okay with this comparison. But it's amazing what a hair style, the right make-up and a few pounds will do. I don't think I actually look(ed) like any of these people... well, except maybe Veda. Even I saw that one.

Who do you look like? Or who have you looked like over the years? The good, the bad and the ugly. Bring it.

A homeless tranny on a San Francisco bus once told me I looked like Chelsea Clinton.

Yes, my father slightly resembles good ol' Bill, but I was not exactly happy with this comparison. At least I wasn't forced to take her/him? seriously though, since she was a complete mess and was actually eating discarded food off the floor.

Well those are pretty good comparisons.  I can see a slight similarity between those people so I spose there's some consistency.  Before she got old everyone told me I look like Nicole Kidman.  I still get "a young Nicole Kidman". I also get "Lindsey Lohan...before she got haggard".  Basically, if you have red hair nobody can tell you apart from any other redhead.

I still haven't seen Mad Men, but, being a redhead, I LOVE and am totally freakin impressed with the makeup on that last girl.  They always put awful makeup on redheads, so that's pretty awesome.

I used to get Flounder from Animal House.  My wife says she thinks I look like Liev Schreiber, but then she's stuck with me and has to imagine the best.

I used to get "Ally Sheedy" a lot. We're about the same age.  As far as I know, I've aged better, not having had her substance abuse problems.

I also heard the "you look like a girl I knew at camp" sort of things a lot.

Over the years I have heard Sandra Bullock, Natalie Merchant, Ally Sheedy in Breakfast Club (this is what happens when you wear all black and don't brush your hair), and (my favorite, though I can't see it) Halle Berry.

There is a website where you can upload your photo and they measure your features against those of celebrities in their database.

i get a lot of "you totally look like jill scott"'s, which is more than ok with me...

other than that, i'm constantly told by people that they have a "cousin" who looks just like me (or i look like them)

I've gotten everything from Jared Leto to Drew Barrymore.

Lately I've been getting Sienna Miller (plus a pound or 2 or 30).

The one I've gotten the most throughout my life, strangely, is Haley Mills. Strange because I feel like she is somewhat obscure, like Anna Chumsky. I'm sure when they told you it was, "you look like that girl from My Girl", with me it's, "you look like that girl from The Parent Trap. No, not Lindsay Lohan".

when i was younger i was told i looked like oliver platt, which i wasn't entirely sure was a compliment.  recently i've been told i look like elvis costello, which i don't see but is definitely a step up from reminding people of lake placid.

I don't look like anyone. :( For years I've asked people if I bear any resemblance to anyone someone might recognize (because I really don't know what I look like), and no one has given me a-one.

Hey thinkywritey...

Send us a pic... I know everyone, so I'll find somebody you look like, even if they're totally obscure.

I've gotten Anna Chlumsky, too.  And Michelle Tractenberg in her Harriet the Spy days. But nobody's compared me to either of them since I turned 11 or so.  A couple years back, a guy at a bar told me I looked like "a prettier Alanis Morissette".

I love Joan from Mad Men! That's a great comparison.

People tell me I look like Heather Graham all the time, which is weird, because I don't see the resemblance and you don't see Heather Graham on screen very much these days.

No, I don't wear roller skates.
