Reflections on the Obama Inauguration Celebration Concert

Posted by Colleen Kane

I am still dabbing away tears from the We Are One Inaugural Celebration Concert with the feeling that, if world peace and unity has not been achieved simply because Barack Obama got elected, then it will surely be locked down in the next month or two. Yesss! (Obvs that isn't realistic...it'll probaby be more like three or four months.)

Some observations:

--Stevie Wonder got rather chunky. Although the go-to mental image I have of him is really Eddie Murphy playing him back in the 80s.

--I have a crush on Mary J Blige. She always looks so glamorous!

--Garth Brooks singing "Shout"? Mortifying.

--And what were those guys doing with the eagles?

But the best guy of the show?

Pete Seeger is adorable.

Damn HBO and their copyright claims!

I hate the fact that I have to work tomorrow and miss a lot of the festivities/historical goings-on.

PS was indeed very tender. Important question, though...who was the guy on the left? His voice overpowered Pete's and Bruce's for the entire song. What gives?

That's Tao Rodriguez Seeger, Pete's grandson. If you've never seen Pete Seeger in concert, do so at the next available opportunity-- and when those two sing together, I defy you not to get choked up.

By the way, you can watch the entire concert here... when HBO gets its act together and starts looping it again...
