Tonya Harding Alive And Well, Claiming: "You'll Still Pay Money To Come See Me"

Last month, Tonya Harding was on HBO's Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel and she gave an interview that was so sad, so bitter, and so unexpectedly angry that we found ourselves actually feeling bad for her...

Gawker alerted us to this clip yesterday, which kindly highlights Harding's reaction to that one time Barack Obama made a Harding joke -- a reaction that inexplicably yo-yos between rage and defenseive gratitude, because, you know, there's a war going on so why is Obama talking about her but thank god he is because now people remember her and that means they'll "still pay money to come see" her.

Needless to say, this less-than-two-minutes-long video clip has got us totally emotionally discombobulated. This is the woman who viciously kneecapped her figure-skating competiton but its also the woman who has somehow (and somewhat pitifully) managed to remain a national joke for (can you believe it's been this long?) fifteen years. The most awesome President of the United States ever is making fun of her. So, yeah, her life probably sucks. A lot.

But you know what? Eff that. She seems like a total jerk.

I disagree, ever since I read Rolling Stone's analysis (this was years back, when RS was semi-awesome) of the whole sorry spectacle, I've found it hard to mock her. She was doing boxing for years, even though she hated it, to pay the bills.
