Boing has run two stories on the phenomenon in West Africa of panics
over alleged stolen genitalia. It manifests as penis theft, although
there's a woman's version too, and the culprit in these thefts is
witchcraft. (Yeah...that's the ticket...) For the latest post, writer
Xeni Jardin investigagted the phenomenon on her recent trip to West
Africa.
Apparently the panics do happen every so often,
mainly in Nigeria, where people accused of witchcraft tend to get
killed by angry mobs, the story goes. Jardin recounts one incident relayed to her where such a mob attack occurred following an alleged theft of genitalia.
