women's sports can get violent. USA Today is claiming this violence is
the result of crappy ratings rather than crappy attitudes and while we
agree that women can be as agro and nasty as men we haven't seen the
WNBA get so much ESPN airtime since, well, ever. Every camera angle,
replayed, slo-moed, analyzed discussed and dissected in more detail and
depth than a WNBA championship game ever received.

So
here's the thing. We think this fight is real, but the cynic inside our
heads is watering a seed of doubt. Video after the jump. What do you
say? Is it real? And if not, can you blame the league for trading a
little cat fight for a little attention? Put our doubts to rest or
destroy our faith in the honesty of
female fury forever.

rollicking good cat fight last night involving Candace Parker, Lisa
Leslie and a whole lot of other members of the LA Sparks and Detroit
Shock." We're with Jezebel on this one - women are entirely as capable of getting in a sports-related dust-up as men are. We (and by we, I mean me, Scanner Verena) remember getting our own version of worked up during a high-school basketball game - after a few too many "Blondie" cat-calls, we made the heated mistake of giving the rowdy crowd a middle finger. (Ooooh, fiesty!) Anyway, that's just us - and this fight looks nasty. You can't fake that kind of vitriol.

USA Today is using the Danica Patrick / Milka Duno towel-snapping confrontation from the other day as an alternate example. We call bullshit. Milka seems really annoying.
