We're barely even at the "attempting to wakeup" stage on this Monday morning, but luckily, Lily Allen has made another public faux pas that is quickly waking us up.

At this rate, we might even be able to operate heavy machinery or, even better, a margarita blender by noon...

Lily Allen, who has been telling the press about her "lesbian fantasies," took a swipe at G-A-Y fundraiser no-show Britney Spears by dressing up as Spears for an encore of "Womanizer" at the event over the weekend. The pop star, who as of today has a #1 single on the UK charts, dressed up in a sluttastic outfit that had the paparazzi like the attack dogs they most certainly are. A few of them tried to stick their cameras under her dress as she exited her car to sing at the event in Great Britain.

When Portland, Oregon Mayor Sam Adams was running for office back in 2007 (he was sworn in last year), he was dogged by rumors of a love affair with-- you called it-- an intern...

Adams dismissed the rumors by saying that he did not have sex with Beau Breedlove (we thought it had to be bullshit when we heard that name) who was rumored to be 17 at the time of his employment at the Oregon State Legislature back in '05. Now, in a shocking turn of events, Adams has been forced to admit to having had sex with the boy, but denies that the teen was underage at the time. Here's the full text of his remarks, from a press release out of the Mayor's office:

I want to publicly acknowledge a mistake I have made and I want to apologize for it.

In the past, I have characterized my relationship with Beau Breedlove as purely non-sexual. That is not true. Beau Breedlove and I had a sexual relationship for a few months in the summer of 2005 after he turned 18 years of age.

I should have been honest at the time about the true nature of my relationship with Beau Breedlove when questions about my relationship with him first surfaced publicly in October 2007. In fact, Beau encouraged me to be honest about the facts of our relationship. I am deeply sorry that I asked him to lie for me.

I lied at the time because I was afraid that people would believe untrue rumors, being circulated by an undeclared mayoral opponent, that I had broken a law involving sexual relations with a minor. But this is not a good excuse.

It's not clear yet whether Adams, the first openly gay man to head a major U.S. city, decided to reveal the supposed "truth" about his sex life because of an investigation or some other concern. We'll have more on this as it comes in...

First, he botches the Democratic response to the State of the Union in a year when he could have turned the tide away from that dreadful President of ours; then, he decides he wants to be the next DNC chair. Now, this ass-backwards dweeb is going to help lead the party away from progressive values like, for example, marriage equality. Kaine, according to Queers United, "has endorsed an amendment banning same-sex marriage. Click here to ask why LGBT democrats should support a party whose chair is anti civil unions and more anti-gay than John McCain."

The guy who stole the 2004 Presidential election in Ohio thinks being gay is a choice. We don't even know where to start with his fucking scoundrel.

Speaking of elections, a gay bishop is to open Obama's inaugural weekend festivities.

Two hotel staffers in Tennessee were fired shortly after a former employee informed the boss of their homosexuality.

Not satisfied with a statewide ban on same-sex marriage, one assmunch is attempting to outlaw domestic partnership benefits for gays in Tampa, Florida.

Angel Chandler's partner, who has been with Ms. Chandler for nearly 10 years, was given a "paramour" restriction by the family court, despite the fact that a court-ordered psychiatric evaluation deemed Ms. Chandler's partner to be "a positive influence on her children." According to Jeanne Sager of Strollerderby, "The ACLU has stepped into the fray, filing a brief this week that urges the court to remove the paramour restriction, calling it unconstitutional for interfering with Chandler's abilities to raise her children as she sees fit."

A study conducted in Canada, a country you haven't heard of because we haven't invaded it yet, claims that the gay teens are having all the sex that's getting Sarah Palin's daughters pregnant. Does this mean Bristol Palin is a lesbo?

Seriously, though, ten percent of teen girls who claim to be bisexual were pregnant (seven percent of lesbians reported the same), while less than two percent of the three thousand teenage respondents copped to being straight and pregnant.

Researchers guess that the girls "want to create a new family and identify for themselves" and guys may sleep with the gals to show everyone their supposed manliness and to stop the rumor mill.

We caught Milk at the Museum of Modern Art last week. The film is a stirring, beautifully-acted and executed ode to the first gay man elected to public office in the United States. The 2008 Oscar contender overcomes the biopic's many trappings, including familiarity with the material (especially if you, like us, saw The Life and Times of Harvey Milk, the masterful documentary.)

After the screening, Gus Van Sandt took to the stage for a memorable Q&A, a session which plays into a news story we heard today...

There were two unforgettably passionate audience members who stood up to thank Van Sandt for making the film: the first was a 25-year-old who fought back tears to tell the crowd of hundreds how he has been harassed for his homosexuality, including on the way to the screening itself. Everyone was crying by the time he was finished-- we'd recovered through the closing credits, but this was the first person called on during the Q&A... we couldn't hold back any longer.

The second was a higher-up in the Hetrick-Martin Institute, which used to run Harvey Milk High School in the East Village of New York City. Now, they serve an advisory role and continue to operate out of the school's building. This man, who I believe introduced himself as President of the Institute, wanted to thank Van Sandt and, on behalf of the half-dozen students of HMHS that were attending the screening, acknowledge the film's importance in these rough times. We were thrilled to hear the school was doing well and that the kids were not giving up hope.

And then we hear that, thanks to New York State Senator Ruben Diaz, Sr. (D-ouchebag), the school is in jeopardy:

State Sen. Ruben Diaz Sr. (D-Bronx) filed suit in State Supreme Court charging that city support of the school was a waste of tax dollars. He contends that the school discriminates against heterosexual students, especially blacks and Hispanics in underperforming schools. Reverend Díaz was decisively elected to the New York City Council in 2001, representing the 18th District in the Bronx.... During his swearing-in ceremony, Reverend Díaz conducted the first Pentecostal religious service ever held inside City Hall. [Topix]

An Iowa court has agreed to entertain challenges to the state's discriminatory gay marriage law.

Here's more info on that transgender prostitute who was beaten to death in a Memphis jail.

An 18-year-old who is transitioning from female to male has some devastating words for high schools, their students, and their administrators.

Apparently, Washington State residents are unaware of the separation of church and state-- or the fact that "religion is superstition and myth," as an infamous stolen sign indicated.

An art student at Brigham Young University saw his art project, which featured gay students from the school, censored and possibly even removed.

And some hope for the future:

North Carolina law does prohibit gay marriage here, but GOP attempts to enshrine it in the state constitution have so far failed.

Carrboro has had a long history of being gay-friendly. It was one of the first communities in North Carolina to offer health benefits to the same-sex partners of municipal workers. Openly gay former Mayor Mike Nelson served five terms and is now an Orange County commissioner.

So it did not really surprise many in this state when the other day the Carrboro city council has passed a resolution supporting gay marriage and sent copies of it off to the state and federal government.

Hey, every step in the right direction is deserving of applause...

As we reported earlier, the gay romance on Grey's Anatomy has ended, thanks to a questionable change in the TV show's storyline. Hmmm...

We're still wondering about these gay-baiting robo-calls.

How is this guy still allowed out of the house? Ever? He should do 500 years in prison, at minimum:

A gay disc jockey in Raleigh originally convicted of violating HIV infection regulations in August has been placed on house arrest after admitting he broke probation orders in early October. On Sept. 6, Q-Notes reported that Joshua Waldon Weaver, 23, who works in clubs in Raleigh and Wilmington, pleaded guilty to charges that he failed to disclose his HIV-positive status and engaged in unprotected sex with three people. Weaver was given a suspended jail sentence and placed on probation. The terms of his probation ordered Weaver to use protection when engaging in sexual activity. About two weeks ago Weaver was arrested after Wake County Public Health officials contacted his probation officer with information that he had possibly violated court orders by having sex without a condom. Assistant District attorney Boz Zellinger told The News & Observer that health officials became aware of the DJ's violation after he contracted another sexually transmitted disease that could have been prevented by the use of a condom. Weaver could have faced 40 days in jail for his most recent violation, but District Court Judge Jacqueline Brewer instead sentenced him to six months of electronically-monitored house arrest. He will not be allowed to leave his father's house except for probation-approved employment.

Not that it matters now, but Obama did not support Prop 8. Pro 8, as you may have heard, appears to have passed, thanks to bigoted Mormons and, ironically, the black vote. Meanwhile, Florida and Arizona aren't helping move this country out of the Dark Ages.

And the Simpsons are causing controversy once again, this time with gay groups decrying the latest episode of the hit Fox show. (You can see the clip here, with the offending section at 15:45.)

Bart Simpson's cartoon nemesis is being blasted for his use of the schoolyard taunt "that's so gay" while bullying resident nerd Milhouse Van Houten in The Simpsons' annual Halloween episode airing last Sunday.

But the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network says the remark is nothing to laugh at.

"Many people say gay without even realizing what they're saying is bad,'" GLSEN spokesman Daryl Presgraves tells E! News.

There was too much gay sex in the Howard Stern Public Restroom, so the State of New Jersey is shutting it down.

The Church of England may be getting soft: the pastor who carried out an unauthorized gay marriage will not be censured.

Here's a weird one for ya. A guy was arrested after a foot chase during which he stripped off his clothing. The photographer turns out to have been taking pictures of kids on behalf of... an anti-gay website. Wha?

Check out this complete assface who blatantly steals "No On Prop 8" signs and then assaults a guy who tries to stop him. Then the accused jerk, a Ken Mettler, says he was "acting in self-defense." Apparently, trying to get your signs back is now an "attack."

Meanwhile, Samuel L. Jackson says he is against Prop 8, which should help with the state's African-American vote.

And two elderly gay men were murdered in their Indianapolis home. Friends say both were targeted for months-- their power lines were cut and homophobic graffiti was found on the property.

Since I, Scanner Brian, originally hail from the Connecticut farm country, I have been watching with great interest as the rural rednecks, the city bigots, and the pro-gay holdouts react to the decision last week to allow homosexual marriages in the state...

Suffice it to say, so far, the victors have received no free ride...

From the Hartford Courant, which, in the interest of full disclosure, I wrote for from 1996 to 1999, here are two letters to the editor:

The state Supreme Court decision recognizing same-sex marriage in Connecticut [Page 1, Oct. 11, "Free To Wed"] is above all a victory for religious freedom.

Finally, the United Church of Christ, Unitarian, Episcopalian and other churches and religions that perform marriages for gay, lesbian and bisexual couples have the dignity, freedom and equality they deserve.

The government never should have been in the marriage business in the first place. This ruling puts marriage back where it belongs. Now each church can decide for itself!

Two days in a row we have this front-page splash on the passage of gay marriage and all the elation and celebration. Do not forget, however, that this will not have a happy ending.

God is the creator of happy endings and he will have the last word, not the judges or politicians. When he acts, and that day is coming very quickly, it will make 9/11 and the economic crisis look like a walk in the park.

We, as a nation, have turned away from him and trampled on his commandments for too long.

There is so much funny here that we won't even bother, but we do have to ask: when are these religious yahoos going to get it? People have been saying for thousands of years that "that day is coming very quickly" and that "the end is near" and yada yada yada... and nothing has come of it. Time to get with reality, folks.

Only 30-something percent of California voters are supporting the proposal to ban gay marriage there, but that doesn't stop the measure's wacky supporters from saying "elites" are denying the will of "the people."

Libertarian Presidential candidate Bob Barr is such a nice, well-rounded individual, he won't let anyone use the words "gay" or "lesbian" on his website. Even in a positive manner.

We used to think Canada was the sane, folksy antidote to our crazy U.S. culture, but not after this guy burst onto the national scene there:

David Popescu is running in the 2008 elections as an independent candidate as part of Canada's federal election. Popescu is well known for his radical christian point of view, and his strong opposition to homosexuality, abortion, and stem cell research.
"A young man asked me what I think of homosexual marriages and I said I think homosexuals should be executed," he said. "My whole reason for running is the Bible and the Bible couldn't be more clear on that point." (Toronto Sun)

Bigotry reigns in... Texas. A group of high school cheerleaders were suspended for a routine that include Katy Perry's "I Kissed A Girl." Lawsuit, anyone? (The school, of course, declined to define its pep-rally-song standards for anyone, even after this national news story.)

A transgender politician in Georgia, accused of fraud and deception in a lawsuit for running as a woman, won that lawsuit... but lost the re-election match anyway.

The lesbian mommas case heads to the Montana Supreme Court.

And the Mad Men of Madison are finally producing television ads geared for gays and lesbians, although don't expect an episode about it on the AMC series anytime soon.

Besides Clay Aiken and Lindsay Lohan finally admitting their obvious gayness, there were a couple more newsworthy stories floating out there this week:

A teenage boy has been condemned to die in Iran because he is a homosexual.

The gay marriage fight in DC is nearing its end, as the City Council is almost ready to pass a bill making it legal.

Ian McKellen will tour British schools to teach kids about tolerance. And elves.

I’ve been busy at quite a few schools recently. I went to a wonderful co-ed faith school in Harpenden.
'They were Christians and absolutely determined that their pupils did not discriminate.
They invited me to come and give prizes to 13-year-olds in front of the parents and to talk, partly, about being gay.

'I said that we are all part of a minority group – be it for being short, or tall or fat or thin, or having red hair or whatever. I said hands up who thinks they are part of a minority group and all the hands went up.

A Queensland city agency has ruled a pro-gun, anti-gay nutjob is guilty of inciting hatred for a sticker he displayed that read: "Gay Rights? Under God's law the only rights gays have is the right to die."

A Lousville, Kentucky McDonald's employee is being investigated by the state's Human Rights Commission after the following incident:

Ryan Marlatt, Teddy Eggers, and three other friends had stopped for lunch at the McDonald's restaurant on July 26, 2008, while visiting Louisville for the weekend. While they waited for their food to be prepared, an employee behind the counter referred to them as "faggots" to another employee. Marlatt and Eggers asked to speak with a manager. As they waited for the supervisor on duty to appear, the employee who had called them "faggots" started arguing with them, repeatedly calling them "faggots" in front of other customers and calling one of them a "cocksucker" and "bitch."

Is it wrong for the gay community to out a private citizen just because he works for a homphobic Presidential candidate?

Blogger Mike Rogers appeared on Michelangelo Signorile's radio show today to reveal that Mark Buse, Senator McCain's chief-of-staff, goes for the guys.

Why is this a big deal? Well, first and foremost, McCain's running with ardently anti-gay Sarah Palin, a woman who scares us more than killer drag queens from outer space.

We don't blame the gays for being angry about Buse and McCain, but is Buse fair game? He doesn't have a blog, doesn't talk about himself on TV, and pretty much stays in the shadows. So... should he have been outed or not?

(By the way, of course, we know very well that if Obama's chief-of-staff was caught having a gay orgy, the religious right would make sure everybody knew about it. But that's beside the point.)

A Maryland appeals court overturned a law that would've hurt protections put in place to help transgender people.

Billie Jean King does not support Sarah Palin, whom she calls "honest" and "real," and continues to lend her name to the Obama campaign.

An Ohio Church trashed Katy Perry for her UK #1 single by saying on a billboard: "I kissed a girl and I liked it... Then I went to hell." Perez Hilton posted a photo of that homophobic church's sign defaced: "God Adores You." Think about it: G A Y.

Those heathens: didn't they know about Don't Ask, Don't Tell? Two male Saxon warriors from around 466 to 1066 AD were found arm-in-arm in their grave. (Well, they couldn't just fall down dead that way in battle...)

A lot of people thought this was a joke, but it doesn't surprise us at all: there's a website called Gay Chubby Dating. And yes, it's a service.

While the rest of the country is starting to head toward the side that's winning, Florida meanwhile supports a ban on gay marriage, 55-45. (Or, if there's a vote on it, by 7 votes.)

Who'd a thunk Fox Frickin' News would have the story to make us feel all warm and fuzzy today? By warm and fuzzy, we don't mean the way we felt imagining Lady Richardson entirely buck naked earlier.

We're talking about a whopping dozen students in Brewster, NY, who have taken to cross-dressing at their high school. Not because they want to... they're showing solidarity for their friend...

Boys wore skirts and wigs and girls wore caps and cargo pants to Brewster High School in Putnam County.

One senior says the students wanted 17-year-old Michael Loscalzo to feel more comfortable. Loscalzo has been dressing as a girl and says he plans to get a sex-change operation. He says he's been teased and even punched once because of his appearance.

Is the country finally turning a corner? Straight teenagers standing side-by-side to support one boy's decision to become a girl? Even we wouldn't have had those kinda guts as a seventeen-year-old junior Maoist-in-training, with our love of penguins, kittens, and disgust for Dan Quayle, whom we referred to as "the poster by for Spell Check." More surprisingly, the school appears to be siding with them:

The school says Loscalzo is free to dress as a girl as long as he follows the dress code.
