A new favorite blog is spreading like wildfire on these internets the past few days, and when I read the title I could not click the link fast enough:

Look at This Fucking Hipster.

It's hard on the streets for a pimp, and as LATFH captions the above entry, "It's actually really hard to be a pimp when all your bitches have trust funds."

My favorite photo/caption combo has this caption: "This is what a retarded chicken looks like."

Street justice! Now whomever is behind this Tumblr blog just needs to get a digital camera and quit with the fuzzy phone pictures.

With last year's episode in which Homer tries to vote Democrat and has his machine insist on switching his vote, The Simpsons carried a biting political message four years too late. Now, as The Daily Show, Colbert Report, and even Saturday Night Live steal the Biting and Relevant Comedy mantle from Matt Groening, the show's producers have tried a new opening title sequence to celebrate their first episode in high definition.

What do you think? Is the Simpsons still a great show?

Adbusters is the next publication up to take a shot at hipsters and their soul-numbing lack of depth, meaning or cultural relevance. This article claims hipsters can be easily identified by appropriated blue collar fashions, their love of the nightlife and a refusal to own up to their own hipsterdom resulting in scenes like the one described below:

“So… this is a hipster party?” I ask the girl sitting next to me. She’s wearing big dangling earrings, an American Apparel V-neck tee, non-prescription eyeglasses and an inappropriately warm wool coat.

“Yeah, just look around you, 99 percent of the people here are total hipsters!”

“Are you a hipster?”

“Fuck no,” she says, laughing back the last of her glass before she hops off to the dance floor.

Ah joyless and so full of irony the hipster, so says this article, cannot even dance with unselfconscious abandon.

The dance floor at a hipster party looks like it should be surrounded by quotation marks. While punk, disco and hip hop all had immersive, intimate and energetic dance styles that liberated the dancer from his/her mental states – be it the head-spinning b-boy or violent thrashings of a live punk show – the hipster has more of a joke dance. A faux shrug shuffle that mocks the very idea of dancing or, at its best, illustrates a non-committal fear of expression typified in a weird twitch/ironic twist. The dancers are too self-aware to let themselves feel any form of liberation; they shuffle along, shrugging themselves into oblivion.

How is it that hipsters have found themselves so unloved and unappreciated? Who will step up and defend these media whipping boys and girls? What do these critics want anyway? A world of dudes in white baseball hats popping their collars? You won't find us on Last Nights Party any time soon, but we'd take Justice over Dave Matthews Band any day.

I've observed that Hipsters stick to their own more than other "subcultures" and species. I also have observed, that a Hipster will pursue a less attractive Hipster and reject a stunning non-Hipster more than non-Hipsters do. In other words, members of the Hipster community, engage in far less inter-subcultural dating than, say, members of the Hip Hop community. Of course, my studies are far from conclusive, due to the fact that the Hipster never self identifies as Hipster. Self identifying is actually atypical among the Hipster population, and is a strong indicator that the individual is not, in fact, a member of the Hipster tribe. If, however, we take my study on its face, the following question arises. If Hipsters prefer someone who is less attractive, but appears, dresses like, and acts like more of a hipster, to some who is more attractive, but does not dress like a Hipster, is the Hipster more or less superficial than non-Hipsters?
