We know you're sick to death of hearing about Kari Farrell, the hipster grifter, who conned men out of money and Vice into giving her a job (and showed us her boobs). Well, either you're sick to death of hearing about her or you're wishing you would have gotten some from her, even if it meant she ran off with your money. If you're of the former mindset, you, like us, really don't want to see all of this damn hipster grifter paraphernalia. Unless you, like us, really like one of her tattoos and are thinking of getting one of your own and might try it out as a t-shirt for a while.

It's based on this tattoo, which Scanner Brian sent to us last week with the following comment: "You should totally steal that first image as your pre-jump Beard image." To which we replied "Um, I should totally get that tattoo!" We know. But still.

So, instead... we'll take you on a whirlwind tour of the early days of photography, which were also, it seems, the beginning of the tattoo craze that still sweeps America to this day...

Seriously, though, tattoos have been staining the skin since ancient times:

Tattooing has been practiced worldwide. The Ainu, the indigenous people of Japan, traditionally wore facial tattoos. Today one can find Berbers of Tamazgha (North Africa) and Maori of New Zealand with facial tattoos. Tattooing was widespread among Polynesian peoples and among certain tribal groups in the Philippines, Borneo, Mentawai Islands, Africa, North America, South America, Mesoamerica, Europe, Japan, Cambodia, New Zealand and Micronesia. There's no way this story can be real, but it was originally reported in the UK's Daily Star on March 30, so unless they have an earlier Fools' Day over there, it's not an April Fools prank.

So, Pete Doherty is apparently cleaned up now, so much so that he's squeamish around needles. This was unfortunate when he decided to get a tattoo on his butt, and could only make it halfway through before begging the tattooist to stop. The result is a rather appropriate unintended word on his arse...

WASTE.

According to Charli Morgan's column "Goss," Doherty wanted to have Wasteland tattooed on his ass, after his favoriteTS Eliot poem. That could have worked, too, but "waste" is even better suited for its rump location.

Dita Von Teese's Regrettable Tattoo Ideas

Dita Von Teese had two questionable ideas for tattoos as a younger lady in the early '90s, but unlike many suckers walking around with the dumb ideas of decades earlier permanently inked onto their skin, she didn't follow through on them.

Actually, in one case she tried, and the tattoo parlor refused to do the tatt.

She wanted a star on her face, but the artist there, who she now calls the voice of reason, would only give her a beauty mark. "You have to understand I was pretty eccentric," Dita said. "I was always drawing hearts and stars in that spot. I went in thinking I wanted a star there, but they wouldn’t do it."

The other idea was to get seams tattooed down the backs of her legs, and she did have it done with non-permanent henna. "Can you imagine how hard it would be to match up the seams with real stockings? It would have been a nightmare. At that time I was researching everything about the forties, about how during World War II women would draw seams on. I thought, ‘Wouldn’t that be cool?’"

Maybe it would have been for a little while. Good decision, Deets.

Audrina Partridge had her home broken into by two very bizarre young citizens. In surveillance footage, they can be seen wandering aimlessly from room to room... and back again... and again... without doing much of anything, let alone steal anything or set fire to the place.

Arrested Development: the Movie was finally greenlit, thanks to lazy-assed Michael Cera coming aboard.

This oh-so-adorable young lady was arrested for assaulting her boyfriend's nutsack. Prior to this incident, they had broken up "approximately 20 times," yet she seemed rather surprised to find that the dude had another ladyfriend over for the night.

While perusing an item on Gunaxin, regarding how Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue model Danica Patrick's tramp stamp (a most ill-advised morph of an American flag into a checkered flag) had been Photoshopped out, I learned of some international terms for the tramp stamp.

Australia, Germany, and Netherlands: "arse antlers"

UK: "slag tags"

Another American term: "California licence plates."

What, no "splattoo"? That works for both men and women. Then there's the really ill-advised frontal tramp stamp on men, but the nickname for those escapes me, and I couldn't find it online: Chump stamp?

Are there any other pet names for this marking?

We Love Wilco and Voting, And So Can You!

You may not know that we're huge, huge Wilco fans. We may or may not have Wilco lyrics tattooed on the back of our neck and Scanner Emily and Scanner Brian may or may not have kind-of sort-of met over a Wilco ticket via Craigslist. We snuck back from camp to see them one night and drove back the same night (6 hours each way). We've even seen them in Amsterdam. If Jeff Tweedy wanted to put a baby in us, we would most definitely let him.

Now, if it's possible, we love them even more, because we also love voting.

No, no. She's not getting that "I heart Barack" tattoo she got when she was drunk removed from her ass. At least not yet, anyway. No, Meghan McCain needs help deciding what she's going to get next.

Meghan already has a little blue star on her foot (blue, eh?) but she's ready for another; now she just needs to decide what to get:

Spies overheard Meghan, author of the new Simon & Schuster children's book "My Dad, John McCain," chatting about her love of body art with her editor, Mark McVeigh, who sports 11 tats. "I'm not sure what I'll get next, just that I know I want to get another tattoo after the election in November," Meghan confided. "And I'm always up for hearing a good suggestion."

One way to do it is to get drunk. That makes the decision so much easier for most people. But coming from someone who has a lot of tattoos, the only advice we can offer is: do what we do and don't get it anywhere that will stretch in a few years.

Too these tattoos weren't done in white ink. According to reliable source of all sources, the Daily Mail, people in Hollywood and other highly influential communities are all about white ink tattoos. "Whatthehellisthat?" and "What does it look like?" You ask...

It a barely visible sort of creepy glowing tattoo that looks more like a scar than ink. As opposed to normal tattoos for regular people, the point here is not to see the image. Brilliant! The white tattoo is, no surprise, best on white people.

Samantha Ronson and Lindsay Lohan recently got tattoos together. Did they go for literal tattoos, like each other's names tattooed on their hips, or did they opt for something a little more symbolic?

Luckily, the ladies took the smarter route, getting symbolic, yet matching, tats:

"Samantha has a bunch of stars, so I got that," Lohan, referring to a star tattoo on her hand, tells Marie Claire in their October issue. Then, pointing to a little heart, she says, "she got this."
"I'm really happy," Lohan says, suggesting that Ronson has been a positive force in her life. "She's a great person. And she's a great influence on people around her. But I think that anything that's changed [in] my life is because of me. I've gone through it, and I've learned to deal with it and I've made the decision to move forward."

He's a member of Rescue Ink, a group of tattooed dudes who met at hot rod and body art conventions volunteer at the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty Toward Animals and rescue missing or abused animals in their free time. They've been at this for a while. Besides being a reality TV producer's dream come true they just "cannot stand by while anyone mistreats an animal!"

These are tough-ass dudes, snuggling with puppies and doing tough-ass dude work. Watch them lift a porch up to pull a feral dog out.

But since having braces in the eighth grade, we've been really self conscious about having stuff in our teeth, so these tooth tats are probably not for us. Yes But No But Yes rounds up the Top 10 Most Stupid Tattoos, and while we tend to disagree with the blogger's general attitude toward tattoos, we must agree with the number nine Most Stupid Tattoo, which we really think should be number one.

The Taz tat takes the cake as far as we're concerned.

Doesn't it just scream "I know I keep talking about how much I want to have sex with you but in reality I got this tattoo so no woman would ever sleep with me again?"

Not on the list? Unicorns and Chinese symbol tattoos on people who have no connection to Chinese culture whatsoever.

Our dad cut us off when we came home from New York at age 19 with a lower back tattoo and a lip piercing. Maybe he thought we were joining the ranks of drunk sluts. And maybe in his day that kind-of reason might have applied. But not anymore. Not too long ago — and today in many circles — tattoed and pierced women were perhaps perceived as a little slutty. Even a recent study found that women with piercings and tattoos were viewed by college students as "more sexually active and more heavily drinking (and less attractive) than their peers. In fact, these students assume women with three tattoos (on the arm, hip, and ankle) chug eight drinks in a night out, versus only four for women with no ink."

Eight?! We'd say more like 5, but anyway...

That theory has been somewhat debunked by the fact that soccer moms sport tattoos (or "tramp stamps") these days — even if they were slutty in college. But a tattoo doesn't make you anything but tattooed.

We think the real point here is that tattoos and piercings don't make us drunk sluts; we were drunk sluts long before we were pierced and tattooed. Not necessarily because we got something(s) pierced or inked when drunk (come on, who hasn't?), but because, as the author of the Psychology Today article pointed out in an email, "sensation seeking and promiscuity are correlated with body modification, and sensation seeking is correlated with alcohol use."

Yes. We like sensation. Don't you? Actually, we love tattoo pain. It's the most empowering kind-of pain as far as we're concerned, probably because it's not very deep and it's self-imposed.

In case you've forgotten, we're mad at The New York Post—so mad, in fact, that we called for a sex boycott of anyone who reads the paper. Well, hey, remember The Oscars? That big awards show/party last night everyone got all dressed up for and is still talking about? Of course, The Post found a way to make it about all Diablo Cody—the former exotic dancer turned screenwriter—and her super scandalous tattoos, with a cover shot of her pretty fucking cool ink and a headline that read "Who's Tat Girl! Pretty-in-ink former stripper wins for 'Juno.' Then they ran a picture making it look like she was giving Mr. Oscar head...

We'll admit. We would have loved this image on the cover of just about any other publication. Except for this line "And the shocker Oscar went to... a sharp-tongued, tattooed, former stripper who glorified a sassy, pregnant teen and her geeky boyfriend..." That's fucking right.

All right, we admit it: we don't actually know if this gal is a nerd or not. Granted, she's got the chemical compound for serotonin inked alluringly onto her hip and she seems to be in scrubs, both of which could at least imply a capacity for academic excellence. But it's not conclusive proof of geekness. For all we know, she could have just been a clubkid before ditching her pacifiers and whistles and getting into bio-waste removal. But whatever. We're gonna assume that she and everyone else on Carl Zimmer's Science Tattoo Emporium is a total dweeb -- so committed to their areas of expertise that they've had them permanently etched into their flesh -- because goddamnit, that. Is. Hot.

And that is what we are here for, right?
