Calendar... Teachers?

Mr. Kile, a teacher a Cocoa Beach High, is quickly becoming better known to his students as Mr. August. You see, Patrick Kile is responsible for a calender featuring scantily-clad teachers. Now, before you get your panties in an uproar over all this teacher sex, you should know that it's all for a very good reason. And no it's not to get Mr. Kile, or Coach Mortar, also known as Mr. June, laid—at least not by students.

Mr. ~~August~~ Kile, a cancer survivor, put the calendar together for charity. Money raised from the sale of the calendars goes to the American Cancer Society.

“We just wanted something ‘outside the box,’ unique and fun and different, that would help open some eyeballs and raise some money,” said Kile. “Back in 2005, I was diagnosed with tongue cancer that spread to my neck. [And] it’s for a good cause. I went to the school board and spoke with the ethics director of human resources and he thought it was a great idea!”

And if you don't like it? “Just don't buy the calendar.”

At least 100 people have purchased it so far and Kile is hoping to sell another 900 more. The calendars are $20 each. If you'd like one, you can contact Mr. Kile at kile.patrick@brevardschools.org. Maybe he'll knock some of the cost off this being the end of April and all. But who really buys calendars for the "calendar" part, anyway?

Yes, we're exaggerating a bit when we claim "most" teachers are in jail for sleeping with their students (or other underage kids.) But it's no great lie to say that it feels like at least twice a day now that we're hit with another rough set of allegations about teaching staff going hog wild in locker rooms, parked cars, or on classroom desks.

Brookann Collier, a 32-year-old from Santa Maria, California, decided that she would be one of the few to get away with it...

Collier is was a principal at Tunnell Elementary School in town, which is where she met a 14-year-old that she slept with for almost five years. The victim, now 20, since graduated from both the elementary school and a nearby high school, but that doesn't mean Collier was off the hook. While many grown men claim they "wish" something sinister like this had happened to them in their glory days, there's an usual twist here:

The victim is a girl. The rumor is she wasn't a lesbian at all and continued the relationship under force. Either way, Collier is charged with child molestation because the victim was under 15 at the time of the first sexual assault. The accused posted the $100,000 in bail and is now out on the street.

Schools across the state of Texas, worried about the outbreak of teacher sex scandals, have launched a full-scale investigation in several districts, aimed at finding out about the goings-on before the police or media do. Unfortunately, this move has backfired in at least one case-- an unnamed high school teacher, embarrassed after the whole school found out he'd been investigated, decided to resign even though the investigators exonerated him.

After school districts began complaining about the unrest among staff, investigators decided to back off... having arrest one single, solitary person.

Jennifer Lea Burton, a 39-year-old phys ed teacher and coach in Beaumont, was busted for having sex on at least three occasions with a 15-year-old girl. Burton met the girl through her work as a volleyball, track, and basketball coach in the fall of 2008 and started sleeping with her almost immediately, according to unsubstantiated rumors. Investigators say the acts happened between September and November of last year and then may have ceased. In any case, Burton was not found out until a few weeks ago, when her name was dropped during the investigation. Burton turned herself in to police on the sexual assault charges and was released on a $75,000 bond.

By the way, Burton has a daughter in the district-- possibly even at the same high school. That can't be good for her well-being, either.

Allegedly.

Louis Levine, a Tennessee science teacher, was arrested this morning for producing child pornography.

Levine's house has an outbuilding outfitted with a waterbed, booze, marijuana, and lots of hidden cameras. Kids have gone there since as far back as the '80s and Levine has videotaped the results. Hundreds of videotapes of those results were found in Levine's bedroom.

He's now facing federal charges due to something that sounds like a technicality: "under a provision for interstate and foreign commerce, because the video camera and tapes he used were made in Japan."

23-year-old Jersey Girl Lindsay Massaro was a student teacher at a K-8 school in Frankford, about 60 miles west of New York City. He was a thirteen- or fourteen-year-old eighth grade guy who may or may not have been special ed. (According to unidentified sources, Massaro is working toward receiving her certificate in special education.)

They were totally non-sexual... until, out of nowhere, they fell into a torrid affair...

Massaro was arrested only a few days ago following a surprisingly-recent crime. (Usually with these cases, it's month later, after the boy's parents become suspicious or the student can't keep it quiet any longer and brags to his friends.) The timeline given to the media indicates March 21st is the day they first slept together, with the relationship dissolving exactly one week later, which would be this past Saturday. Massaro is charged with "second-degree sexual assault, third-degree endangering the welfare of a minor and fourth-degree criminal sexual contact" steaming from "acts of sexual penetration and sexual contact with the intimate parts of a minor male," according to this source. If she's convicted, which she may not be given the fact that there seems to be very little evidence, she faces an expected ten years in prison.

In any case, Massaro's teaching career is over. She's been fired from her job, is out on $75,000 bail, and has no hope of convincing another school to hire her unless this all turns out to be a horrible prank to which the culprits confess.

What do you think about these cases where the teacher is barred from having anything to do with children, thus barring them from working? Murderers out on bail are not barred from owning knives, for example. Just wondering...

Headlands School in Bridlington, Yorkshire has the highest rate of teacher-student sexual encounters in, we're guessing, the first world.

On Friday, British police charged a staff member, which sounds wrong, with having sex with a teenage girl, bringing the grand total of arrests to...

FIVE.

Five teachers or staff members at Headlands High have been charged in less than three years. Here's a breakdown of how the endless scandals have all played out:

Three years ago, an art instructor by the name of Ian Blott (man, these stories can't be real, can they?) received a blot on his record and four years in prison for forcing himself on a teenage girl. The girl claimed that she was traumatized from the encounter and left with bulimia and other medical problems.

In 2007, Steven Edwards, until then a science teacher, was convicted of having sex with three students (their genders not identified here) and is now serving a five-year sentence. The abuse/relationships occurred over the course of four years, but only came to light after Blott's trial.

Even after two such cases in as many years, school officials did nothing to or were unable to stop the tidal wave: two more teachers were arrested last year. Terry Mann, a teacher, had sex with a student from another school and somehow managed to escape with a suspended sentence, possibly because he plead guilty and admitted everything immediately. One of his colleagues, a teacher's assistant, also received a slap on the wrist for carrying on a long-term relationship with a boy at school.

Again, the school did nothing to successfully control its staff.

The fifth case came to light last week, when Chris Reen, who works as a substitute or fill-in at the school (what, the janitors are getting in on this, too?), was arrested for seven sexual encounters with a girl throughout the end of 2008. Parents were understandably outraged, since the school is apparently on probation for failing to properly protect and educate its charges. This is about as solid a case for homeschooling as any...

By the way, according to this story, Reen is "a newlywed." Wow, way to bring shame to your family, dude.

43-year-old Jonathan S. Dick, a resident of the great and now decidedly ashamed state of Maryland, has been arrested for attempting to corrupt a fifteen-year-old boy, who was not one of his students. Dick met the unidentified boy on the WWW, then spent several weeks trying to seduce him via "sexting." According to the boy's parents, Dick didn't put his dick anywhere it doesn't belong, at least not when it comes to their son.

Nonetheless, Jonathan's Dick faces 10 or 20 years in prison, depending on which Baltimore-area news source you believe. Either way, they agree that he's being charged with soliciting sex with a minor.

In an unrelated story, Dick Cheney called a press conference yesterday to remind people he is still available for lampooning.

We're sorry for possibly giving Scanner Brian a coronary with that headline; if teacher-student sex were to end, what ever would he have to write about? And really, what we're talking about here is only one small step toward putting an end to teacher sex, but one giant step for the state of Utah.

Following reports that not one, but two teachers in the aptly-named town of Bountiful, UT were banging the same underage student, the state's lawmakers have decided to 'study the issue of teacher-student texting.'

We didn't know such practices were even allowed, let alone considered appropriate (the one time we had to call a teacher at home we almost shit our pants) but apparently all the kids are texting their teachers these days. One republican representative, Rep. Sheryl Allen, thinks maybe it's not such a big deal.

"It can be used as a tool to remind students about homework or give them a piece of information. Students are driving this because texting is one of their major modes of communication," she said.

Meanwhile, the two teachers involved in the case, Linda Nef, 46, and Valynne Bowers, 39—who both face first-degree felony charges—will undergo mental health evaluations. We must admit, we are quite curious to know the root of teacher sex? Scanner Brian, maybe you could explain it to us?

Here's A Kind of Teacher Sex Story We've Never Seen Before...

It's not even ten a.m. on the first day of this workweek, and there are already two bizarre teacher sex scandals to report. The first featured a kid, having engaged in a sexual relationship with his teacher since October, caught by the principal... (literally) with his pants down.

Now comes the story of yet another lecherous teacher and her teenage male victim. However, this case features a twist that we could never have predicted, even after reading of dozens of these cases over the years.

When 46-year-old junior high school teacher Linda Nef walked into a police station near Bountiful, Utah, cops had no idea a major media firestorm was about to descend on them. When Nef confessed to having sex with a thirteen-year-old male student, she fingered Valynn Bowers, 39, as a fellow rapist... of the same boy.

Bowers, in case you haven't figured this out, is a teacher at the same school.

According to local media reports, ~~Hef~~ Nef started sleeping with the boy first, but was dumped for an unknown other party, with whom the boy has been carrying on a sexual relationship for the past three months. One day, Bowers entered Nef's classroom and confronted her in what may have been a jealous rage, telling the older teacher, "I'm the new girlfriend." Or she could have simply said, "Hey, we really screwed the pooch on this one." However, we doubt that last part, as Nef is the one that freaked out and went to the police after the revelations.

The local news, predictably, has a unintentionally hilarious time trying to figure out how to work with these details:

With the suspects being so much older than their victim some wonder what would prompt them to commit the crime.
University of Utah psychology professor Don Strassberg says that would be an easier question to answer if the teachers were men. With men, he says, it's probably about the sex.
But it's more complicated when you're talking about women. For them, Strassberg says getting into a relationship like this is likely more about them: their needs, having control, getting attention.

We've been warning the public for months that the daily onslaught of these cases is going to eventually reach a breaking point and outdo itself-- in other words, we predicted that these kinds of "teacher sleeps with student stories" were going to involve in something even weirder, like janitor sex or parents getting used to it, but we never say a menage a trois coming....

This is the face of terror. Or it could be the face of true love. (Either way, could the cops have made this mug shot any more like a documentary on the Hale-Bop cult?)

Angie Fetty is a thirty-four-year-old English teacher in Pennsylvania and now an accused sex offender. Unlike most of the alleged criminals profiled on this blog, Fetty is a female accused of sleeping with another female, in this case, a sixteen-year-old who may or may not testify against her lover.

But it's not the fact that this is a lesbian sex scandal that caught our attention... it's the bizarre saga at the root of the case.

Turns out Fetty wasn't very discreet with her encounters with the student. First of all, how does a sixteen-year-old girl get to stay over her teacher's house every night-- or at least several times per week, according to the report? Are the parents pulling all-nighters at work or something? In any case, these two thought they could hide their love away by kissing and parting at the bus stop, leaving the teacher to drive to school and the teenager to ride the bus, as if this would throw off the "scent" or something. Apparently, Fetty didn't know that her neighbors are, for the most part, not blind and, of course, the rumors ultimately made their way to the school.

This is the second lesbian teacher sex case in the last few months-- that one also featured some weird sleepovers and incredibly oblivious parents. Here's what we said about that case:

It all started when Thompson [the teacher] proposed the 14-year-old girl go to lunch with her. It soon escalated into sleepovers and racy text messages... while Thompson continued to be married to her husband. (Didn't he think something was strange when his wife kept staying over some kid's house?!)
"...But the couple were found out when the parents discovered them having sex one evening. Their reaction was simply to request that their daughter keep her door open when she had visitors. Thompson’s husband also walked in on the pair when he came home from work earlier than expected one day. [Bild.de]"

Who knows? This might even become a trend...

After a nationwide manhunt, a Massachusetts teacher is in custody today in West Virginia. Authorities, parents, and students alike were "freaking out" over first-year eighth grade teacher Lisa Lavoie of Holyoke, Mass., when she eloped with a fifteen-year-old boy from her class. The pair used the school break as a head start, but the police had already been suspicious beforehand, leading to a quick capture.

Woman and child were believed to be trying to make a run for the Mexican border, but they were apprehended at a hotel room not even a third of the way down the map.

Meanwhile, in Idaho, another female teacher has been arrested and faces life in prison for something so unspeakable, it'll make you say, "What... the rest of her life... for that?"

Anna M. Bettencourt, 39, got it on with a 16-year-old boy on the floor of an "agriculture shop" (boy, they sure do things differently in Idaho), then once more in his truck. She allegedly sent him a series of tantalizing text messages to seduce him over a long period of time.

"She said she was going through bad times in her life and she enjoyed the attention and made the mistake of engaging in very inappropriate text-messaging with him," according to court records.

The charges-- two counts of felony sexual battery on a minor-- could mean Bettencourt spends the rest of her life (teaching) in prison if she's convicted.

Let's blame the economy for this, too: Teachers wishing to commit a crime have caught on to not give it away for free to students, when they can turn a trick and turn a quick buck. Only in the unfortunate case of Ohio teacher Amber Carter, it led to a felony charge.

Amber was arrested for prostitution yesterday at a Super 8 motel when she met up with a john she'd found on Craigslist during school hours. She had called out sick yesterday afternoon for her trick, which turned out to be a sting. It didn't help her case that she used school computers to arrange her business--it led to the additonal felony charge of "unauthorized use of property."

"It's not our place to tell them too much," said Superintendant Larry Anderson about what to tell the students, "but we figured the students might have heard rumors and would have some questions." Parents will get a letter about the situation tonight.

He also described Amber as a popular teacher. I'll say!

Crazy Cat Dude Jason Beaudry, a math teacher at Chicopee Comprehensive High School in Massachusetts, has been arrested after a January incident in which he showed three teenage girls, all of them underage, a picture of his pet.

What's wrong with that? Oh, we get it now... his other pet was in there...

According to the local news in the Holyoke area:

The case started in January when he allegedly invited three teenage girls back to his math class at Chicopee Comprehensive High School. There he showed the girls a picture of his cat on his cell phone, but as they scrolled through the pictures, the content changed.
"The second picture she scrolled through was the defendant, as well as an exposed penis," says Assistant District Attorney James Channing.

Boy Genius went on to ask the girls if they'd come to the "good pictures" yet, thereby eliminating the defense's argument that he never meant for them to see the peen pic. Next thing you know, as his attorney put it, the photo incident "went like wildfire through the school," leading to his arrest and his being placed on administrative leave. Keep collecting those checks, big boy, it's a long waiting list for a fast food job these days...

One night, you start to get racy text messages from someone claiming to be a hot girl your age. Somehow, the texter manages to convince you that you are in a hotel and waiting for you to come by for some hot sexy time. You get to the hotel on the double, open the door, and...

Now, at what point do you realize the "teenage girl" you've gone to meet is, in actuality, your 49-year-old 8th grade English instructor? Before or... after you have sex with her?

Rosanna Brown, 49, a teacher at Pastor Elementary School in south Phoenix is charged with having sex with a 14-year-old boy.

The teacher is now in jail. Investigators say she sent text messages to the boy from her cell phone posing as a teenage girl to lure him to a hotel, where they had sex. [AZ Family]

"Oh, wait, you're not a hot 14-year-old girl from class who has a completely different phone number than the one you've been texting me from. But hey, you want to bone me, so... what the hell!"

In this economy, we care less about grades (because who can afford college, anyway?) and more about taking care of our basic needs, like food, clothing, shelter and prescription drugs. So it was only a matter of time before we'd start to hear of people exchanging their most valuable natural resource (sex) for a basic human need (drugs). It's been happening on the mean streets for years, but now a Pennsylvania doctor has been arrested for violating the drug act. And, of course, sexting.

Dr. Samuel Krakow might not have had too much trouble getting laid. Sure, his hairline was starting to recede, but he was a doctor, a doctor! But instead of good, old-fashioned dating, or even trolling craigslist for sex, Dr. Krakow—perhaps sensing his patients' economic strain—employed the barter system.

In exchange for prescription drugs (Oxycontin!) Krakow offered his man junk, in person and over the phone. Unfortunately, one of his "patients" turned out to be a police officer:

Authorities say, in January, police conducted an undercover investigation in which Krakow engaged in lewd and sexual communications with an undercover officer, and offered to deliver prescription drugs in exchange for sex.

Investigators say Krakow also sent the officer a photo of his penis over his cell phone.

In addition, police say, Dr. Krakow provided the undercover officer with a phone number for his former place of employment so that the undercover officer could confirm his status as a doctor who could provide any type of prescription pills.

Police set up an undercover operation on January 30th, in which they say Krakow agreed to meet and deliver Oxycontin pills in exchange for various sexual acts.

Once the drugs were delivered, the drug task force moved in and Krakow was arrested.

Maryland just received a much-needed injection of seediness after a small-town English teacher pleaded guilty yesterday to a sex crime involving one of her students.

The media is having a field day with this one, with television reporters gleefully repeating her porn star name over and over to soak up a bit more of that ratings glory...

According to the Baltimore Sun, Autumn Lee Leathers (yum) faces a one-year prison sentence after taking a plea deal from prosecutors, who tossed out charges of assault and child abuse. The crime she is now guilty of? Having a torrid, three-month sex fest with a 15-year-old boy, which became so loud and publicly obnoxious that her neighbors finally had to rat her out:

Officers say they were contacted by a resident, who noticed the student at Leathers’ home several times n the late evening.

When he was interviewed by officers, the student told them he and Leathers had a sexual relationship that started in May of this year and continued throughout the summer.

Authorities believe all of the sexual activity occurred at Leathers’ home, not in the school. A search warrant was executed at Leathers’ home on Braddock Street in Frostburg Wednesday evening, where police found other evidence that has become part of the investigation. [Naughty Neighbors]

Leathers was 24 at the time of her crimes-- and was admittedly kind of a cutie then-- so, she becomes part of our ongoing thesis about attractive 22- to 29-year-old teachers in America finding that, for the first time in their lives, there are "men" that are off-limits to them and how great it makes them feel to break the rules...

Last year, there were well over four hundred reported cases of teachers having sex with underage students. So, it should come as no surprise that we're starting to get two of these creeptastic tales per day...

1) A 24-year-old male music teacher, who shuttles between private schools in the boroughs of Manhattan and Queens, was arraigned yesterday for some disturbing sex crimes. Like, this-guy's-going-to-die-in-prison creepy shit. Amos Duque is accused of "five counts of promoting a sexual performance by a child, five counts of possessing a sexual performance of a child, one count of second-degree sexual abuse and one count of endangering the welfare of a child."

Good Lord, we don't even want to know what he did to earn these distinctive charges:

[Duque] allegedly gave his cell phone to the 11-year-old student on Dec. 20, 2008, and persuaded him – allegedly by offering him money – to go into the bathroom and take pictures and make a video of his penis and then later, to allow him to see and touch his penis, according to the complaint. Duque also allegedly referred the boy to pornographic Web sites on the Internet. [MSNBC]

~~Douche~~ Duque faces seven years in prison, but he almost wasn't arrested at all. His victim kept it bottled up and may have suffered for years, perhaps decades, had a friend of his family not noticed something was wrong and got the child to spill the beans.

2) In Lousleazyanna, our favorite state, another 24-year-old teacher, this time a female, has been arrested for unlawful carnal knowledge-- and no, she didn't molest Sammy Hagar. The victim is a fifteen-year-old boy who may have actually been a willing participant. We say this only because of middle school staffer Kendra Hoffpauir's second charge: contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Correct us if we're wrong, but the charge can only be made if it was not a forced sexual encounter-- in other words, the boy would have to have been underage but also a willing participant. If she had been charged with sexual assault, then they would not have given her the second charge. No?

In any case, it doesn't really matter. The boy's parents found out (we always wonder how-- did the kid come home and tell them something horrible had happened to him or were the two caught in the act?) and the cops were called in.

Side note: We found out a little more about Miss Hoffpauir, thanks to social networking sites she belongs to. Hoffpauir is a 2006 graduate of a Baptist college and strongly supported Mike Huckabee in the primaries. Make of that what you will. Also, reports of this incident sparked a major outrage in the community, so much so that the local media grew concerned about a lynch mob or some renegade attack on the suspect.

We're told by someone who cares about sports that something called March Madness exists, where winners are determined in a similar fashion. Considering the amount of misbehaving teachers, this may very well go on until March and beyond.

Debra LaFavre and the rest of the kooky teacher pervs have nothing on 29-year-old Boston-area teacher Christine McCallum for one simple reason.

They never got to live with their victim and sleep with him more than three hundred times. According to news reports from all over the world, McCallum became a sort-of foster parent to a thirteen-year-old boy after his father was unable to take care of a kid by himself. McCallum and her husband (yep-- seems every perv these days has a spouse of only a few short years) took in the future victim and his brother in late 2005; by early the following year, police allege, McCallum was plying her charge with vodka and seductive attire, leading to makeout sessions and, on February 7th, the taking of his virginity.

This went on for two years-- including sex in the next room while Scott, who was only McCallum's husband for two years when the affair is believed to have begun-- until McCallum and the boy broke up over text messages the boy was receiving from girls his own age. Yes, this is one of those idiots who is said to have given her victim his own cellphone and even wrote incriminating details about their love lives on his MySpace page:

"It's hard to be in love with you and set boundaries for you," she wrote. "It's hard to kiss you and tell you no. It's hard to want someone to take care of me when I have to be the one taking care of everyone else."

You would think someone would've seen that and called the cops-- but it wasn't until a teenage friend of the victim told his own parents what was going on that the police got involved. And the obliviousness doesn't stop there-- McCallum's husband attended court with the accused, never batting an eye, even as prosecutors read damning evidence (most of it in McCallum's own hand) into the record...
