Ginnifer Goodwin Talks Veganism, Wears Leather for "W"

Ginnifer Goodwin, otherwise known as Margene the third Mormon wife on HBO's "Big Love," recently got all gussied up for the June issue of 'W.' She wanted to let everyone know she's nothing like Margene or like Gigi, her character in "He's Just Not That Into You." It was a good interview and the pictures (after the jump) in which Goodwin describes herself "as seemingly tough and hardened but always on the verge of falling apart” are gorgeous. In fact, the whole thing makes us like her more than we already do. Except we have one little problem with it. The story is supplemented with a blog post on Goodwin's recent turn to veganism. The actress says she did it for health reasons and also because of the way animals are treated at industrial farms.

So why then is she wearing...

"Versace’s leather jacket; Kiki de Montparnasse’s silk bra; Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière’s viscose jersey briefs with attached leather belt. Yves Saint Laurent gloves; Falke hosiery."

Just wondering. We love hamburgers and leather handbags. So we can't hate on a girl. But she might piss off a few vegans with that get-up.

PETA Takes On Foie Gras, Valentine's Day, Decency Laws

Every year, PETA tries to top themselves for Valentine's Day. Since no one surveys the establishments or companies they protest in order to judge the effectiveness of a PETA-led boycott, there's no way of knowing whether these campaigns are having an effect one or another.

However, there's no denying it makes for a popular local news report...

Sometime yesterday, five PETA protesters took off their tops and covered their bosoms with signs reading "Have a heart -- drop foie gras" and stood in read heels in front of Selfridges, an upscale department/grocery store in London. Selfridges has not joined other fancy-schmancy stores in the UK in dropping foie gras from its stock, apparently believing force-feeding terrorist geese is okay as long as they're tasty. Or something. In any case, they basically blew off the protesters, while photographers, locals, and leering tourists snapped photos of the activists.

The BBC, the Independent, and the AFP have the skimpy story, while we have their photos. (Apparently, these were taken on London Bridge, which we thought was in Arizona these days, but whatever...)

Sophie Monk, former Baywatch co-star with/protege of animal rights activist Pamela Anderson, has been busted committing the worst kind of celebrity hypocrisy.

This scandal is so monumental, it would be like seeing Michael Jordan leaving a Foot Locker wearing a pair of Reebok's in 1991. Okay, maybe we're joking around, but check this out: Monk posed nude for PETA in 2007 and said:

"I think the message to KFC eaters (is that) you should think about what you're eating. If you're eating deformed animals that are being induced by hormones, you know, it can not be good for you."

Well, Miss Monk, you appear to have fallen off the wagon. What do you say to Kentucky Fried Chickenshits, those who gobble down god-awful-tasting, god-awful-for-you, god-awful-for-the-world meat from their establishment?

Anyway, when we were going back to being carnivores after brief stints as vegetarians, we never, ever have cravings for KFC. Not even now, years later, would we touch that total garbage. So why would Sophie Monk risk the wrath of a batshit crazy and super-vindictive operate like PETA, just for a drumstick?

FBI Agents Out To Get Democrats

When we worked with Billionaires For Bush, the grassroots media campaign that pretended to support our favorite Appointee, we often heard card-game speculation on which of our members secretly worked for the FBI. No one was sure that anyone was working for the FBI, but not too long ago, our suspicions turned out to be true-- documents revealed that the NYPD and other authority figures had infiltrated our ranks to determine if we were up to any good, er, up to any terror-related activities for the Republican National Convention or any other anti-GOP activities.

Of course, the question this always raised was: why were those not supporting the President more likely to do something violent than the nutjob warmongers furious at the anti-war Democratic convention?

Now, it turns out, those questions will be raised again this year, as the FBI is attempting to infiltrate, to our eternal amusement, "vegan potlucks."

“She told me that I had the perfect ‘look,’” recalls Carroll. “And that I had the perfect personality—they kept saying I was friendly and personable—for what they were looking for.”

What they were looking for, Carroll says, was an informant—someone to show up at “vegan potlucks” throughout the Twin Cities and rub shoulders with RNC protesters, schmoozing his way into their inner circles, then reporting back to the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, a partnership between multiple federal agencies and state and local law enforcement. The effort’s primary mission, according to the Minneapolis division’s website, is to “investigate terrorist acts carried out by groups or organizations which fall within the definition of terrorist groups as set forth in the current United States Attorney General Guidelines.”

Carroll would be compensated for his efforts, but only if his involvement yielded an arrest. No exact dollar figure was offered.

Guess All Those Strippers Fatally Obscured The Allure Of Vegan Food

Hey, remember when we told you about that Portland strip club that was attempting to mix vegan cuisine with naked ladyparts? Yeah, well, according to Fleshbot, you can currently find it up for sale. So sorry, Johnny Diablo; we thank you for the memory, and we're sure Portland thanks you for the mammaries.

This really leaves us with only one question: which one of you lucky Pacific Northwest strip clubs is gonna pony up for the services of that lovely lady up there, huh? God, we've been crushing on her for, like, weeks. Not that we've ever seen her at her job or anything -- but we can almost guarantee you that she won't come in to work smelling like beef!

Diabolic Portland entrepreneur Johnny Diablo first tried to get people to eat vegan style by creating Pirate's Tavern, a short-lived theme restaurant that was supposed to capitalize on the inexplicable success of those Johnny Depp movies to spread the gospel of cruelty-free food. But that didn't work, so when he was planning his latest venture, Casa Diablo, he went for a gimmick that's a little more tried and true: tits and ass.

While it may not be the most orthodox way to win over new vegans, Diablo hopes people bring some green and eat some green at his new club.

“(It’s) vixens, not veal, and sizzle, not steak,” Diablo said. “We put the meat on the pole, not on the plate.”

OK, well, we've had an aversion to "meat" comments about ladies since some douchebag carrying a "tuna pizza" -- topped with Barbie doll parts -- tried to take a picture of our wife in Mardi Gras. So, moving on... our impression, from watching the (excruciatingly smug) news video and reading the articles about the place, is that the ladies might be vegans as well. And while we aren't about to get into whether vegetarians and vegans are hotter than normal people, if you want to -- go ahead, comment away. All we're saying is: ladies this cute will be getting dudes to try soy nachos when Captain Jack Sparrow is long forgotten.
