New Mom Dropped By Insurer For Being Slightly Overweight

The insurance company worried that it would have to take care of children like the ones picture above, based on no evidence other than the mother they were carrying tipped the scales at over 200 pounds.

Anna Holten is a 26-year-old Swedish woman. She stands at about 5' 4" (169cm) and weighs about 220 pounds (100 kg), giving her a BMI of 35. Apparently, this was too much for her insurance company, which dropped her to great public controversy...

Upon learning of her rejection, Holten contacted the Trygg-Hansa risk analyst to explain that she was still trying to work off the weight she gained while pregnant.

“You should have lost the weight by now,” the analyst told her.

According to Trygg-Hansa product manager Björn Sporrong, people with a BMI of 35 are “extremely overweight” and right at his company’s limit for granting coverage.

“Exceedingly overweight people run a significantly higher risk for suffering from many serious diseases,” he told Expressen.

Trygg-Hansa spokesperson Malou Sjörin concurred.

“Even if you’re not sick today, you can be in the future,” Sjörin told the Metro newspaper.

These people wouldn't be able to find anyone to insure if they moved to America-- 220 pounds at 5' 4" is barely considered "overweight" in some states. But that doesn't mean they were wrong to drop Ms. Holden, mother of a seven-month-old baby... or does it?

McCain Blogette: Hot or Not?

John McCain's blond blogger daughter, Meghan, is under tremendous pressure from her readers (and apparently the public at large, no pun intended) to shed a few pounds, Nicole Richie style.

Madeline Holler at Political Nanny has been covering this breaking new development in the Republican Presidential race. Oh wait, that's over, so this is about the only thing left to talk about: a skinny girl "needing" to lose weight.

Not only is it untrue that she's got some junk in the trunk, it needs to be said that even if she did, that has nothing to do with whether she's hot or not. There are plenty of very sexy, very doable women out there that are slightly overweight... like... like... well, do Scarlett Johansson's boobs count? They're pretty heavy.

Seriously, where do these people get off? (We've included most of McCain Blogette's entire post, below, since it's one of the most positive things to come out of the GOP camps this entire campaign. Dig[g] it.)

I've been surprised by critical comments regarding my weight and body shape. It recently reached a ridiculous level when someone handed me a business card for a plastic surgeon and suggested I needed liposuction. I am proud of my curves and have always loved my fuller figure, as should every woman who is not a size "0". I want to be a positive role model for my little sister and all of the other young women who read my blog and help perpetuate a more positive image for women, regardless of their body size. I feel empowered to tell everyone that it's important to maintain a healthy weight that works for them - not everyone is going to be model thin, nor should they expect to be. To every young girl reading this blog, it is inner beauty and happiness that makes a person beautiful, not a number on a scale.

Unfortunatley, she kills much of our good feeling for her by adding that her song of the day is "Feeling Good" by Michael Buble. Yawn.

Dolly Parton In Weight Gain Scandal

After years of gaining and losing weight at a wilder rate than Jared from Subway, Dolly Parton has agreed to cease and desist and simply let the pounds pile on.

Dolly is afraid that people are not going to take her seriously because she weighs less than Jared, too:

The 62-year-old says, "People are telling me I'm too skinny now, so I'm going to gain 10 or 12 pounds. They worry about me - but I'm healthy."

The "Nine To Five" singer, famous for her surgically enhanced bust and small waist, insists she is perfectly healthy and blames her overly-concerned pals for sparking fears about her slender figure.

If anybody out there cares about how much she actually weighs, you can, um, weigh in on the discussion on her website.
