I'm an American, and have been living in Europe since 2000, and I'm here to tell you that the English are *at least* as weird and fucked-up about the body and about sexuality, as Americans are. They're not fucked up in exactly the same way, though. Americans are infantile, loud and hypocritical (spring break, mormons, a fetish for sex scandals, the porn industry, abstinence-only education, reality television, mega churches, Paris Hilton) while the English are quietly--but very deeply--suspicious of sexuality. The young fuck a lot, but only because they drink A LOT. The kids get laid, but at the cost of the UK being the public vomiting capital of the world.

But the fundamental anxieties, that the body is icky, and the belief that sex is a nasty thing that bad men to confused, weak helpless women, are at least as deep and maybe even deeper than they are in the US.
