New Star Trek Teaser Leaked, Looks Like Old Star Trek

Posted by John Constantine

Here’s a first look at J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek reboot due out next Christmas. It is, quite literally, just the intro sequence from the original ’60s television show with two notable differences. Check it out after the jump.

First, instead of a chirpy, young Shatner talking about frontiers and whatnot, we get super-old Nimoy on monologue duty. This is especially strange considering Abrams’ picture is supposed to feature these characters as ambitious young go-getters. The second difference is that, traditionally, the Enterprise bursts into the screen going crazy space-fast at the end of the monologue. Here it’s just sitting in some kind of giant space shoebox. What the hell man? For a series you’re trying to infuse with new life, this teaser is pretty lifeless.

Get it while it’s hot and still available on the internet, kids. This one won’t be up long.

Looks like the Enterprise is in space dock. From the description in the post I was expecting to see the last stages of it being built at the Utopia Planetia shipyards, but that's not Mars. Looks like Earth.

The comments on the video suggest that it's a fan-made trailer.  I know that no one on the internet knows anything and people who leave YouTube comments doubly so, but it's probably true in this case.

I think it's actually more like the Next Gen intro than the original series intro, especially since it features the Motion Picture/Next Gen theme.  Also, is it just me, or is Nimoy's voiceover the same as the one he does at the end of Wrath of Khan?  It sounded exactly the same.

So, bold prediction, the Enterprise is getting built, there's a big crisis and it's the only ship around (because the Federation is REALLY bad at positioning its ships), so the half finished ship is taken out with its fresh faced new captain and untested crew in what is basically the plot for over half of the film series.

I'd hope I'm wrong, but the spacedock thing does worry me.  That and my innate distrust of JJ Abrams, and my feeling that the going back in time plot isn't going to help a franchise that needs to stop wallowing in its past and boldly go where it hasn't actually gone before.

This one is getting posted all over the tubes. Settle down, folks.

That being said, it's cool that there's finally the tech for people to make things like this, just for fun.

Laaaame.

If this is the trailer the movie is going to suck more than I suspect it will.

HOwever I'd say its a good bet this is a fan forgery. And yeah, its a redux of the end of Wrath of Khan mixed with Generations music.

We, like many others on the internet, got fished in by the fake JJ Abrams Star Trek teaser a couple of weeks back . Here, for your viewing pleasure, is the genuine article.
