Not half an hour ago, I wrote of the Oscar-nominated short Madame Tutli-Putli:
"Chris Lavis and Maciek Szczerbowski’s film is light on story, but overflowing with style. In addition, Madame Tutli-Putli is a masterpiece of tone, perfectly capturing the forlorn feel of an overcrowded train car, as well as moments of humor, suspense, and visual poetry. Madame Tutli-Putli is perhaps too obscure for the Academy voters... but it’s a wonder, and I expect that it’ll still be watched long after the other films have been forgotten."
But why take my word for it?
Thanks to the miracle of modern technology, I was able to find Madame Tutli-Putli on YouTube, nestled somewhat uncomfortably between impassioned videos of teenage boys defending Britney Spears and vintage commercials for Hai Karate. So here's my favorite of this year's nominated animated shorts, broken up for you into two parts. Enjoy!
