Trailer Review: Meet Bill

Posted by Paul Clark

Isn't the world sick of midlife crisis comedies yet? You would think so, considering that the basic template is almost always the same — man gets fed up with life/job/family, his wife cheats on him (or at least he thinks she does), he rebels against his job, he gets in shape, and starts chasing a younger woman. Yet for some reason or other, filmmakers keep making these movies, perhaps because Hollywood is full of struggling middle-aged screenwriters who feel the need to fob their trite insights off on the world in the name of fiction-as-therapy. Judging by its trailer, Meet Bill doesn't seem to have many new wrinkles on the formula. I like Aaron Eckhart, but unfortunately he doesn't appear to transcend the same-old-same-old feel of the proceedings, and the generic-ass title doesn't inspire much hope either. Also, to Jessica Alba — enjoy your stardom while it lasts, because once you can't coast on your looks anymore, you're going to be in a world of trouble.

Yeah, this doesn't look very good blah blah blah...

But seriously now has there been an American comedy from the last two years that Kristin Wiig has not been in? I'm not really complaining per se, but Jesus.

Well, at least Will Arnett appears to have skipped this one.  Loved him on ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, but does the guy know how to say no?
