Thursday Morning Poll for May 22, 2008

Posted by Paul Clark

As I suspected last week, there really aren’t too many good movies with Prince in the title. However, there were enough good ones to make last week’s poll fairly close. In a tight race, John Carpenter’s Prince of Darkness eked past Sidney Lumet’s Prince of the City by a single vote, with Lubtisch’s The Student Prince in Old Heidelberg trailing close behind in third. Along with also-rans Prince of Egypt and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, there was also some love shown to Hammer’s Dracula: Prince of Darkness, though none for the Mario Lanza version of Student Prince. And yeah, I totally forgot about The Prince of Tides. My bad.

Seeing as how this is Indiana Jones week, I thought the topic of this morning’s poll would be fairly obvious. After all, most of us love Indy, but nobody loves all of his movies the same. Which one is your favorite?

And since the first poll could very well be a landslide, go ahead and weigh in on your least favorite as well:

Naturally, I hope you folks will wait to see Crystal Skull before voting, but that’s up to you. And as always, feel free to chime in down there in the comments section.

prediction:

raiders beats out last crusade by 30 points; temple finishes fourth just behind a confused yet optimistic hillary clinton.

a few words in defense of temple of doom: it bravely stepped outside the judeo-christian mythology, it cemented the franchise value of the series, and it had ridiculous one-liners from that kid from the goonies.

in defense of last crusade: it kicks off with a fantastic flash back sequence, sean connery rules, and "No ticket."

All three of these movies are way, way better than Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Just... trust me.

Won't see Crystal Skull until tomorrow night.  I may change my vote then, but I went with what I know now.

I cast a nostalgic vote for Temple. Raiders is clearly better, but Temple was one of the first "grown-up" movies I ever saw, and seeing a dude rip a guy's heart out of his chest was about the awesomest thing I ever saw.

And Peter is right. Crystal Skull is dreadful.
