The one performance I really expected to be on the list was Marlene Dietrich in Just a Gigolo. I imagine most people have managed to forget it existed, but I am not among that fortunate group. It was truly horrible and a sad end to her career.

I think SKIDOO deserved not to be here, not because it's a good movie (it's not... oh Jesus is it ever not) but because Groucho is the best and maybe only good thing about it. Aside from Harry Nilsson singing the closing credits, of course.

In mentioning BUDDY BUDDY, it must also be remembered that Walter Matthau's final gift to the filmmaking world was playing an invalid father to three sour-faced twats in HANGING UP. That kinda stings.

Also, count me in the "EYES WIDE SHUT is great and yer off yer nut, dude" camp.

You do have a point about SKIDOO...it's at least wrongheaded in that headlong-fiasco kind of way that guarantees its own weird kind of immortality. BUDDY BUDDY is just sad and empty and useless. It's like if JACK was the last movie Coppola ever made.

Also, no disrespect intended, but the closing-credits dedication in STREET FIGHTER totally should've been "Raul Julia, 1940-1994 - GAME OVER."

Actually, Big Trouble almost made the list but we couldn't find a copy in time! Raul Julia & Mae West are great ones we missed, although I'm not personally familiar with Buddy, Buddy...but I'm kicking myself over Groucho, (although Skidoo presents the same problem as Bela in Plan 9: so bizarrely awful, and yet simultaneously so bizarrely awesome...plus, it ain't THAT bad to go out playing "God")!

Let me get this straight: the flawed but fascinating EYES WIDE SHUT made this list (I didn't know anyone was still flogging the "It wasn't sexy!" horse this many years later) but Billy Wilder's soul-crushingly bad BUDDY, BUDDY somehow didn't? And at the same time Altman's half-shit/half-mediocre A PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION is somehow considered a worthy send-off for the dude who made MCCABE & MRS MILLER (apparently EYES WIDE SHUT would have benefitted from some "inspiration" along the lines of "let's get Virginia Madsen to play the Angel of Death")?! The mind reels.

Re On Golden Pond, not a very convincing argument on the part of the young blogger who fancies himself <i>tres, tres</i> clever in making these overreaching, not funny, incredibly smug, rather mean-spirited demonstrations of his supposed superiority.
