CRAFT: Well, John (Sullivan, producer of Expelled) had a real insight, we believe, into the necessity to have a person, first of all, who wasn’t overtly Christian or overtly religious…

This is consistent with the entire thinly veiled Christian agenda of the Intelligent Design movement.

From Philip E. Johnson – father of the intelligent design movement –

• "Our strategy has been to change the subject a bit so that we can get the issue of intelligent design, which really means the reality of God, before the academic world and into the schools.

“Expelled” is nothing more than a cinematic attempt to further the manufactured argument that intelligent design/creationism is a viable alternative to the study of evolution. It presents nothing to give validity to the idea of intelligent design, it merely tries to discredit the well-founded theory of evolution in various ways, including underhanded arguments attempting to link Darwin with the evils of eugenics and Nazism, not unlike the vicious tripe being spewed by Ken Ham of Answers in Genesis.

Tens of millions of Americans, who neither know nor understand the actual arguments for or even against evolution, march in the army of the night with their Bibles held high. And they are a strong and frightening force, impervious to, and immunized against, the feeble lance of mere reason.

Sadly, none of the effort going into "promoting" this movie is the least surprising. The semi-intriguing closed-door previews. The poor appeal to insider connections and schmoozing. And how 'bout paying people to watch?

These tactics reveal that the producers and backers of this film are consumed by the knowledge that they are not only purveying dreck, it is also shown that they are scared to death of the light of day.

If I was confident enough to make a movie about what it is that I am confident of, I'd hire a brass band and scantily clad dancers and arrange a tour. But these guys? They hide. And from their hidden redoubt, inflict their nonsense on school kids and, the more pitiable for their more highly developed sense of credibility, school board members. These are cheap shots delivered from an indefensible position. It's just this sort of shit that pisses me off. The worse shame is that so few will challenge such despicable tactics.

To those who do challenge, a hearty attaboy! Count me in.
