Man, I need to catchup on my Romero. Haven'tssen any of hi stuff in a while, I was really drawn to his work as a chap. Monkey Shines? LOL! remember that. I don't rememer Milton making an appearance though. "Yes, I was told I could listen to the radio ata reasonable volume" "Yes, but, last time I did not receive a piece" O.K., but, I'm going to burn down the building." REmember everyone! THis Friday! Is...Hawainn shirt day...so...you know, feel free to wear..LOL! "Corporate accounts payable Mina Speaking! Just a moment!" Now, how many pieces of Flair do you have on? Hmm? Seriously. You seee Brian over there? Uh, yes I see him LOL! So, Does anyone at your work ever say to you "Sounds like somebody has a case of the Mondays?' What? Naw man. Hell no. I think you'd get your ass kicked for saying something like that LOL! WHAT THE F**K, DOES PC LOAD LETTER MEAN!!!!!!!!!!!

I never thought of Martin as critically underrated. In the annals of vampire films it stands pretty tall. Back when I studied vampire myths it was always listed along with Near Dark, Vampyr and Nosferatu as one of the few truly great vampire films. I can't think of many films that have come along in the decade or so since I stopped paying attention that would displace it either.

Romero has said that he thinks MARTIN is his best film, and I'd agree---much as I like the Dead movies (and I like 'em lots), I think MARTIN is one of the best horror movies in a decade full of greats. I was also happy when Mark Morris selected it for his "Mark Morris Selects" film series at BAM---there seems to be a slowly growing critical re-evaluation of this one, and I think/hope its reputation will steadily increase.

THE CRAZIES is also an interesting one. What with all the counter-insurgency troubles the US has had lately, it's actually fascinating to go back and look at it as a procedural, showing step by step how a well-intentioned military action turns into a horrifying cascade of screw-ups, and eventually a full-on guerilla battle. It's also maybe an even more vicious take on the '60's than NIGHT---the images of white-suited Army men taking a flame-thrower to wandering flower children is pretty potent.

BRUISER, however, sucks.

Dang ... No KNIGHTRIDERS. That may be my favorite Romero film.
