Again both The Twilight Zone and The Crow were fully completed and released by the filmmakers involved (even though Alex Proyas was apparently shell shocked during the remainder of the shooting of The Crow). Avalanche Express would have been more likely as its a film which was completed and released despite the death of its director (Mark Robson) and actor (Robert Shaw) during production.*

Que Viva Mexico was released but given the numerous versions that have appeared over the years, I would argue it is incomplete as there wasn't really an overall blueprint for the editors to follow once the director was recalled to the USSR.

*Maybe I should do my next top 10 to be Films completed after the director bit it. Top on that list would be Eyes Wide Shut.

I thought thsi list might include movies that were completed, but in a different form, because of the death of a leading actor. Hence, what about Twilight Zone: The Movie and The Crow?

Apparently The Day the Clown Cried was completed by Jerry Lewis. He's even shown the final cut to a few people. So we can't really say its incomplete, just that he's refused to release it.

Sounds completely mad. Why wasn't it finished? Ran out of money?

It sounds a mad idea but I'd like the producers of one of these movies to consider releasing all the footage and selling them to University/Film Schools as material for film students to edit on. That's what apparently happened to all the rushes to Night of the Hunter, as they were donated to the AFI.

HAMISH MOSE is a legendarily bugfuck unfinished film directed by, of all people, Cameron Mitchell (who claimed that God told him to make the film). If I recall correctly, the plot involves OJ Simpson as a Civil War officer leading a platoon of black soldiers on a marauding rampage through Indian country. The couple descriptions I've read of it make it sound like a dime-store attempt at Jodorowsky.

My criteria was looking for films that had already been cast and were actually in production before being shut down. So Kaleidoscope wouldn't count as what was shot was just test footage, not the actual film.
