CBS has signed on to produce a new version of Hawaii Five-O, the island-based police drama that aired in the late '60s and '70s. The revamp will be headed by Criminal Minds producer Ed Bernero, and is likely to include more CSI-style procedural elements than the low-tech original.
Of
course, the most important aspect of a remake like this is casting. So
who should play the lead character of Chris McGarrett, son of Jack
Lord's legendary detective Steve McGarrett? Click through to see our choice:

Yes, it's Sean Penn. Pretty much every middle-aged movie actor is taking the lead in a cop show these days, and Penn's no-nonsense look and intense style could make him perfect for the role. Besides, the ultra-serious actor can probably use some time in Hawaii, preferably near that beautiful beach from Lost.
Best of all, Penn played surfer-dude Jeff Spicoli in Fast Times at Ridgemont High... whose arch-nemesis, history teacher Mr. Hand, was obsessed with -- wait for it -- Hawaii Five-O. (Aloha, Mr. Hand!)
See how all that works? Cast him, Danno!
