MTV To Make Horrorshow Out Of "Rocky Horror Picture Show"

Posted by Bryan Christian

In case you haven't heard, the geniuii at MTV have decided not only to remake The Rocky Horror Picture Show, but that the original wasn't songy-enough or something -- so they're adding entirely new numbers.

RIchard O'Brien, creator of the original show and apparently not-rights-owner, is understandably distressed.

"I'm not co-producing it and I won't be involved in any way. The first I heard about it was when people sent me cuttings from U.S. papers." He also denied the suggestion that he had given the movie a seal of approval. "It doesn't have my blessing," he said. "I don't know where they'll go with it really. ... I've even heard that they're going to put new songs in. I wrote the book, the music and the lyrics. Where are they going to get the songs from? Who's going to do that? That's a bit strange isn't it?"

Well, let's see...

strange
–adjective
1.unusual, extraordinary, or curious; odd; queer

Yeaah. Um, for what its worth, if that's the definition of "strange," we're guessing the MTV Rocky Horror will be anything but.

The geek community was able to put the kibosh on the McG-Americanized Spaced (I'm sure it wasn't just us, but the outpouring of vitriol from the "community" was overwhelming), perhaps we can pull it off again!

Why doesn't anyone consider the "If it's not broken, don't try to fix it" rule. RHPS is a cult icon of tacky/fabulous cinema. With such a huge following why woud these little kids at MTV try to remake it. Get ready for a huge loss and public outcry. I suppose next they will be rewricing Beethoven and Chopin for their mindless audience of tube heads who would know quality if it were given to them.

Watch the film "Idiocracy" and see what is in store for the world when everyone in dumbed down back to the midle ages. Your government is waiting.

She loves Charles Dickens and Gabriel Garcia Marquez and also, straight-to-video releases with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. It's possible she reads more teen fiction than she should. She hails from Los Angeles, her hometown and soul mate, but she lives in Brooklyn, the fling she'll never forget.

She loves one-liners with sting and hates the stench of the subway in the summer. That said, she can’t get enough of either.
