Holy head-scratcher, Batman! Does anyone really care about the early years of teen sidekick Robin, the Boy Wonder?
Apparently the CW does, because they're readying a new drama, The Graysons, as a possible replacement for their aging Superman-as-a-boy show, Smallville.
According to Variety, "Just as Smallville focused on Clark Kent in the years before he became Superman, The Graysons will follow the
world of Dick "DJ" Grayson before he takes on the iconic Robin identity
and aligns himself with Batman.... Young DJ
will face challenges involving first loves, young rivals and his family
as he grows up."
In the original Batman mythology, Dick Grayson was part of a family of acrobats, until his parents were killed and he was taken in by Bruce Wayne. But the producers aren't saying whether that's still part of the story (and, frankly, it seems unlikely that they'd want to set the show in a circus).
As to whether The Graysons will be any good or not, who knows? We just think the CW had better watch it: Eventually, they're going to run out of teen superheroes. And if that happens, they might just end up stuck with this guy.
