John Costelloe, the actor who played Johnny Cakes, the gay lover of Vito Spatafore on The Sopranos, has died at 47, apparently of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Costelloe's excellent, subtle, moving portrayal of a closeted, married short-order cook saved what could have easily been a storyline gone wrong. We'll always remember when, sensing something, he first took Vito's hand in the diner; it was a moment of true affection and vulnerability - beautiful and sad, at the same time. It was really good television. Rest In Peace.
