Korean Dictator Brings New Record, Two-Inch Lifts To Letterman

Posted by Bryan Christian

Well, after 10 years of jetting around the world dressed like the leader of a honky junta, Bono's politically-informed sense of style finally caught up with him last night when, on the first night of U2's weeklong residency on The Late Show, Mr. -No showed up wearing what looks to be our Kim Jong-Il costume from a few Halloweens back. Tuft of hair on top of his closely cropped head? Check. Weird aviator shades? Check. Frankenstein-thick soles to mask his freakish shortness? Oh, you don't even know...

Dollars to donuts there's one cameraman in New York City who's been firmly instructed not to pan down for the rest of the week.

So true. He did look like Kim Jong-Il! That didn't occur to me, but watching them, I did think(although they sounded pretty good and brought a lot of energy)that they finally passed the tipping point for a legendary rock band - they look and seem like old men now. Guess that happened to the Stones and the Who sometime in the '80's, and it's always weird when you notice it for the first time.

Lindy Parker has worked as a ghostwriter, editor, dance instructor and a purveyor of dreams, one beer at a time. She loves Charles Dickens and Gabriel Garcia Marquez and also, straight-to-video releases with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. It's possible she reads more teen fiction than she should. She hails from Los Angeles, her hometown and soul mate, but she lives in Brooklyn, the fling she'll never forget.

Olivia Purnell left Ohio for sunny Los Angeles; then found that she couldn’t ignore New York City’s call, and brought herself to Brooklyn where she has worked with GenArt, BlackBook, the School of American Ballet, and finished an M.A. in Creative Writing from N.Y.U. She loves one-liners with sting and hates the stench of the subway in the summer. That said, she can’t get enough of either.
