Way back in 2001, producer Joss Whedon and a bunch of other people involved with Buffy the Vampire Slayer
started working on an animated version of the series. It featured the
voices of the show's original actors, along with Giselle Loren (who
played Buffy in some video games) in place of Sarah Michelle Gellar, and
was intended to cover the Scooby Gang's early high-school years and be
more kid-friendly than the original (though still kind of
scary).
Soon afterward, though, Fox canceled its Fox Kids
channel, which had intended to air the show, and no other network was
willing to buy it. So despite the fact that several scripts had been
written, Buffy: The Animated Series was never made. (Although there are rumors that it still might happen someday.)
