In Living Color,
which ran from 1990-94, is mostly interesting these days because of who
came from it. If you don't know, the list is pretty amazing: Jim
Carrey, Jamie Foxx (joined season 3), Keenen Ivory Wayans, Damon
Wayans, Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, David Alan Grier (oh, if you
haven't seen it, check out Chocolate News),
Tommy Davidson. And that's just the cast - the "Fly Girls" dancers were
choreographed by Rosie Perez the first three seasons, and featured
Carrie Ann Inaba and Jennifer Lopez. Yeah, that Jennifer Lopez. (Hey, Christmas spirit -- here's a clip from J.Lo's first day as a fly girl.)
Not
to say the show wasn't funny - it was very funny, in an over the top
kind of way, for the first three seasons, before Keenan Ivory Wayans
left and it fell apart. It's just, looking back, a lot of the gags were
very of their time - Arsenio Hall and Mike Tyson jokes, for example.
But
one character who never gets old is Damon Wayans' serially abusive
Homey The Clown, biding his time in a prison release program by
entertaining the youths of America. Watch for yourselves. And then try to get a reservation at Chez Whitey.
Click through for a video retrospective, including a very heartwarming Christmas appearance. Awwwww....
